Oscar Raymundo, 38. Editor at GayCities/Queerty, I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, graduated from Northwestern University and currently reside in San Francisco. I like making playlists, planning brunches and telling it like it is. I've been harboring dreams of being a spy ever since I snuck onto a flight at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris without a boarding pass.
Phenomenal Pride Party!
Every year the aquarium turns into a gay dance party just in time for Pride. Check it out!
Sunday's a Drag
is a must for anyone living in the city and wanting to impress out of towners with authentic San Francisco flair!
Favorite Architectural Skyscraper in the City
Can't mistake the glass of the Marriott. The View bar has some spectacular sights. Not to mentione, this was the home of the SF GLAAD Awards as well.
Upscale tranquility
That's the best way to describe the Muse hotel. The rooms are big and comfy. The mahogany floors and furniture add that much-appreciated allure of luxury.
Magnificent hotel
I felt like a king here! The gardens had some of the most scenic views in all of Bangkok, and it was all inside the hotel.
Modern and convenient
Located in Silom, where all the gay action happens in Bangkok, Le Meridien is less "gay" than cousin properties the W, but just as design-heavy.
What you come to expect from the Four Seasons
Excellent service, attention to detail. Also a very convenient location and great Italian restaurant, Biscotti, onsite.
The rooftop is a must!
The bars at the very top of this luxury hotel offer an incredible panoramic view of Bangkok, even if it's all hazy from air pollution.
Unlike anything else in Bangkok
Modern, deconstructed, molecular.... whatever it's called, the food here is really somethin' else. The banana cake was a memorable treat.
Charming
A great place to have a classy meal before getting all sweaty on the dance floor of Silom's finest gay clubs!
Beautiful dining experience
Great place all around. The signature mojito comes in these great stainless steel cups, making them extra refreshing! I'd love to rent out the whole place one day for a big party with all my friends.
Refreshing and comfortable
You must try the homemade coconut ice cream. Especially during one of Bangkok's heat waves.
A great view of Bangkok
It was fantastic getting to see all the sights as the sun settled below the city! And things got really magical when a fireworks show started going off on the horizon. Couldn't have gone better. Oh and the food wasn't all that bad either.
No photos allowed
Not sure why though. it's not like anything too crazy was going on. I did leave early though. Early by Bangkok nightlife standards 1:30 am!
Good old boy-watching
I was suprised to see how Americanized this gay club seemed to be. From the pop music, to the drag shows to all the Westerners who were there. No complaints, it made for a fun international scene.
The place to see gay-themed plays
Their highly-acclaimed new work The Homosexuals has just been extended until August 14.
Try their bourbon drink
Just enough spice to kick off the night on a sweet note. Or try a shaken-up drink just to see bartender Jeffrey jerk the shaker with passion.
Sodom party every 3th saturday
Toronto's decadent (and irreverent) dance party and the costumes are all out!
Convenient, relaxing villas
The villas are a short walk away from the pool and the grove. But be careful about noise complaints! Many families stay around these parts.
Spacious and well-lit
The open space and large windows create an inviting atmosphere. Yes, you will find a couple of people glued to their laptops.
friendly atmosphere
perhaps too womyn-friendly, but a fun place to browse nonetheless. these girls really know what they're talking about!
if you liked jurassic park
you'll love the field museum. plenty of fun stuff to look through and exhibits to get lost in - and a giant skeletal t-rex on the main floor!
Much needed
Although it's underwhelming as a museum, it's great to see space in the Castro that highlights queer culture and not just another place for underage kids from Fremont to come get sloshed and vomit on the sidewalk... Now it's up to the community to stuff it with treasures and keep it open this time.
Inexpensive costumes
Unless you want to be trampled to death, give yourself plenty of room to browse this quirky, drag-friendly shop if you're looking for the ideal costume. Not much room to try stuff on, but the only place with these sorta goodies in the neighborhood.
Swanktastic
The W is known for stylish, modern decor, and the SF hotel is no exception. Great location near the MoMA and all the shopping of downtown. If you like to have a cocktail before dinner or before going out, The W also has a great bar.
Great view
The gay area towards the hill in the back has been dubbed the Manshelf - sit here and catch all the cuties in their mankinis on our very own "beach."
Lots of films featuring clothes from Ray's
From My Own Private Idaho to Ninja Turtles, Ray's is popular with films wanting to create an authentic vintage look.
John Waters's favorite designer
The store is an avant-garde design house in itself. Check out the edgy eccentric one of a kind fashion.
Best place to recap your night
And all the crazy stuff that happened at Berlin the nightclub on the same block... catch some cuties from nearby Wrigleyville too.
Gwen Stefani Factory
Looking for fun, funky and relatively cheap? MDF gives you fresh fashion choices and great accessories to spice up any outfit.
Blacked out
Before going here once, so needless to say I don't remember much... except dark silhouettes moving funny in their backroom.
It's like a part of the gay constitution...
In every gayborhood, there will be at least one easily accessible IHOP with flirty waiters serving 24 hour breakfast.
Modern but warm
The staff, although hard to pinpoint, walk around the lobby just waiting to see how they can be of assistance. Got us a reservation at the nearby Chateau Marmont. Way to start a Hollywood vacation.
Never felt so... old...
As when I cracked my back trying to climb onstage. Plus, the wristband marking my 21+ status. But where else would play Selena Gomez?
Thursday are for the Real WeHo'ers
New party on Thursdays try to take the Abbey back from before it blew up. Mostly successful after you force your friends to come with you to the DJ booth and start the dance party.
Making room to dance!
The music is as diverse as the crowd - from 90s Latin pop to Celia Cruz and salsa, this cantina lounge had a pretty good crowd on a Sunday. No dancefloor but that didn't stop us from busting a move.
Kind of crowded
Cheap drinks and prime location has started making Qbar somewhat of a sensation in the Castro. There was a line to get in on a Monday night. A Monday!
Gay-friendly parties
Home of Cockblock and Blow Up SF, both parties draw large numbers of queer boys and the girls who love them. Kind of on the younger side, but that just means a more rowdy crowd.
The 2-4-1 special has me hooked.
Not as... exciting as Badlands. But that's a good thing! If you get here early enough, you not only get double your drink but also have space to meet and mingle in the back patio before dancing up a storm!
Pick me up in this Truck
The perfect size to go grab a drink with some friends and scope out the hotties walking around the bar. Just the right mix of dirty and clean cut.
A light meal
That brings back a certain California feel, this restaurant is a great place to catch a healthy meal (try the juices) not to ruin the beach body you worked for all those months.
Mondays!
Even though my favorite musical is The Lion King (the movie), Musical Mondays are fun for everyone, regardless of your appreciation for showtunes. Kind of a production. The cherry lounge is my favorite.
As eclectic as the city it's named after
Not really in Boystown, but right on Belmont, this bar has that grungy abandoned factory feel. You can always expect a late night party with the best electro DJs and just the right mix of boys/girls. If you're looking for cutting-edge music to dance to like no one's watching, then this is the club for you.
