Great food, good service, occasionally interesting people-watching.
Got friends who are big into all organic, locally-sourced foods, friends with dietary restrictions, or even "dietary restrictions?" Hugos is the place. Everything on the menu is can be customized in all sorts of ways, though I like the food as written on the menu :) Hugo's is most known for its breakfast, though I've also been there for an enjoyable dinner. Given its popularity for brekkie, it can also be an excellent location to people-watch.
A local fixture, always good.
If you are looking for a solid local bar, with cheap drinks, friendly people, and good billiards tables, you've found it. Trunks is always a good time - it's just never a great time. It has historically been a starting and/or ending location to a night, and is perfect at what it is.
One of my favorite locations in BoysTown
The Abbey is a home away from home. The largest open-air establishment in the city, it is great for brunch, lazy afternoons, and partying until closing. Drinks are tasty and strong, staff is great (almost like family), gogos are sexy, food menu, while limited, is delicious. Note that in the past few years the Abbey is far more of a "mixed" bar than a gay bar. I often describe it as a gay safari - "come, see the gays in their natural environment!"
Gay version of a dive bar, but always a great time
If you are looking for gitz and glam, you should be at Laurel Hardware next door. But if you are looking for a no-holds barred party, in a bar that is the epitome of dive, then come on in. Prices are good, people are friendly, lights are low. If the bathroom wasn't a place that should be cleaned with napalm, it'd get five stars.
