Rauchy fun time...hope it fits in the Hole
This East Village dive was packed with hot and frisky Abercrombie types. NYC laws (decency, smoking, you name it, did not seem to apply) The sometimes closed, sometimes dark back room got it into trouble at times over the years. The owners finally closed the Ave A/12th St location and have re-branded their other bar (formerly "the Hole" on 2nd Ave) as "the Cock." Let's hope it fits.
Great neighborhood bar
Blakes is one of the best things about living in Midtown. It's a "regular" bar (not a club or a restaurant" with "regular" guys (of the oh-so-hot-All-American-Atlanta-boy variety). Very social and fun after work on well into the evening.
tragic; naughty
it's naughty. It's tragic. It's Fort Lauderdale. It has some entertainment value if you're killing sometime before going to Club Ft. Laud. (which is right down the street), but you'll get bored/creeped out quickly.
In a strip mall, smells like old cheese
It's in a strip mall (although a gay strip mall, believe it or not--perhaps its only saving grace). It also seems to have a permanent unidentifiable stench, which smells something like cheese that has been left out. For that reason, you'll probably want to stay in the outdoor seating area.
Pure, old school, leather Fort Lauderdale
Not my scene personally, but if you want to check out the old school, pre-yuppified Ft. Lauderdale gay scene, this is the place. Dress somewhat appropriately. Leave the pastel tank top and khaki shorts at the guest house.
One of 2 "must see" Bourbon St staples
Along with Oz, it's one of two anchors at the gay corner--Bourbon and St. Anne. For Mardi Gras or Southern Decadence, you may have to pay a cover at night for Parade (upstairs). Bring (or earn) lots of beads to reward flashers on the street from its famous balconies. Fun, young, cute, boozy crowd on major weekends. OK other times. Hot dancers and bar tenders.
Overlooked step-sister one block from St Anne
This overlooked step-sister of the more famous Oz and Bourbon Pub can be a great place to buy your drinks for the street during the more crowded weekends. It's only one block away (in the quiet direction). The crowd isn't as cute, but fun can definitely be had.
The "other" bar at Bourbon/St. Anne
Great bar, but still my second choice (after Bourbon Pub) in the gay heart of NOLA. You may have to pay a cover at night, particularly for Mardi Gras, Halloween, and Southern Decadence. Bring (or earn) lots of beads to reward flashers on the street from its famous balconies. Lots of naughtiness to be had. Somewhat "dirtier" and more tweaked out than Bourbon Pub.
the name says it all
I never new a hamburger joint could be so gay! A fun place to stop for a burger...or to get drinks while you wait for your table at Galanga, a top-notch Thai Restaurant next door. (They'll give you a pager)
