See women & children here now, and sad how they have let it run down

This place used to be so great. Was a true gay men's resort. Clothing optional pool. Cruisey atmosphere. Really cute courtyard. Great location. This place has consistently gone downhill. The house across the street once had leather rooms. I think that whole building is now apartments. Some parts of the actual hotel are closed off now, probably rentals. There are constantly women going here now. There goes the nude swimming and jacuzzis! It was for sale a few years ago, and they said they were renovating. Apparently they have fallen on hard times financially. It's sad because this place could be so cute and be like a Palm Springs or Ft Lauderdale gay resort. Anyone want to give me a loan to buy it and make it good again?!

    Reopened as The Anvil

Nice space. Dark bar with cruisey atmosphere. Probably the most leather type bar in Phoenix. Have lights out parties, DJ's, dancefloor, small outdoor patio, pool table, boot black, heard there is a sling in the corner some nights. Has a crane game that is filled with porno and sex toys which I thought was genius! CUTE little latin barback, and a white bartender with a hot bod and tatts. Definitely nice to have this bar back and attracting the leather guys.

Friendly crowd, mens bar feeling, great patio

Have been coming here for years for happy hour or early evening starter drinks. Bartenders have always been friendly. The bar itself is nothing special, just a hangout, but has a really great big patio out back. Especially nice on a warm night. Fire pit, bbq.

Could be an ok starter bar

Heard this is the happy hour spot. Pride weekend it wasn't happy. Really packed, which I don't mind, but it literally took 25 minutes to get one drink in a small plastic cup. The bar isn't huge, and I have been in many a packed clubs. Just seems like the staff aren't used to that kind of hustle. Was really a put off. But the bar is cute, nice patio. Know that it is on the backside of the little mall if coming in off Central. I would have to try it on a regular weekend to see if this was just a fluke. But knowing it was Pride I think they could have been a little better prepared.

Not the old cowboy bar it was, but one of the best dance bars in PHX

Have gone here for years, and yes it has changed, but that isn't always bad. Have fun theme nights. The after hours is the best. GREAT music. The best outdoor patio. Fun crowd. Great restroom with LOTS of urinals and stalls, and lots of peeping! Dance floor and indoors can get really warm when busy and warm out. Then right on the patio is a forceful cold A/C unit. Wish they could pump some of that inside too!

One of those bars everyone bitches about but everyone goes to

Most cities have this bar. You complain about it, but you end up there sooner or later. Like the multiple rooms, feels like Roscoe's in Chicago. Dancers are ok. Prefer to go here for drinks earlier in the night rather than end up here. And if you are up front you can see a constant stream of people coming and going. One of those one or two drink bars. Not sure why people would say it is a hole, it's a nice bar.

Place seems a little bit sketchy. But it's entertaining. Shows can be fun. The crowd is always a crap shoot of crazies! Also entertaining. Probably wouldn't hang out here often, but the trannies on and off stage and some of the people that come to hang are worth coming to see.

Fun space and lights, circuit music and

Liked the space. We were there on a Saturday night, and it really wasn't all that packed. The liquid ice jets are a fun gimmick, but kinda annoying. Probably are better when it's packed and hot. Really didn't like the music here, and completely disagree about the LA comment below. Some of the music was good, but most mixes were more circuit, techno, and this is NOT real house music. I mean people were flagging, and had some others with glow sticks and raver lights. Maybe you have to be tweaking or stuck in the early 90's at that rave you never left.

Great space if it would see a little TLC

Like this bar, the layout, great patio. But I agree with the others, it really could use a little bit of work put into it. It's really a plain old leather levi type hangout bar that you would expect in small town America. For Houston is should be a little more exciting. But the crowd is fun. Patio is fun. Restroom is fun. Pool tables, darts, touch screen games, pinball. With just a little money and some elbow grease, they could really kick up the sexiness of the cruisey atmosphere and keep the hot guys there all night instead of just drive by's.

Nice club, good mix of guys

Visiting from out of town and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. It was cold out and rainy, so wasn't sure if it would be busy or not, especially with their nice outdoor pool area. Wasn't bad for late afternoon. Liked the club itself, it is really big, and does make it feel like it may not be super busy. But you wander around and find where the guys are. In the little maze area with the glory holes and platforms had some fun. Had a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. I think it's worth checking out. And the viewing platform above the showers and jacuzzi is really hot!

    Costly, mediocre dancers, but entertaining

Cover charge was $10, drinks were not real strong and $8 for Absolut. Anywhere you hang out and watch the action the dancers come up and chat. Some are more aggressive than others at making you feel as though you need to tip them or get a lap dance. Lap dance was $20 per song, and it's in front of the others getting a lap dance and a monitor. So not private at all. Lots of dancers, half of them were good looking. Was ok, but probably wouldn't go again.

Strongest drinks and nicest staff in WeHo

Hands down they have the nicest staff in WeHo and the strongest drinks for a good price. Very unpretentious bar as are most of the patrons. This is one bar where it works to not update or remodel. It's got a good flow too, often people come here and have a few drinks before they go to other bars so faces change pretty frequently. Tuesday nights when Dirty Burty hosts "Manhole" they have HOT gogo boys and great music. Doesn't take long before the bartenders here start giving you free shots and free drinks, so I highly recommend being a regular!

Dare I say consistently the best gay bar in LA

They keep it fun! Though they do different promotions, it always seems kinda like the same bar. Which is good! Narrow bar. In 10 years I think I have only had 1 or 2 bad nights there. Typically the music is the best mix of new, old, classics, pop, rock, all over the place but FUN. Great crowd, and good looking. Random things like free shots during the next song, lights out with staff flashing flashlights, throwing wads of napkins over the crowd, upstairs bar with dirty gogo dancer, random drink specials, keeps things fun. When there is a cover it's never more than $5. Lights are kept low for fun sexy atmosphere. Yes, have had some moments here!

Great Location, Good Space, but mostly goes to waste

Rage has one of the best locations and layouts for clubs in WeHo, but unfortunately it is kind of lost among other clubs for many reasons. It's biggest downfalls are promotion and management. Don't get me wrong, the staff is great for the most part, haven't ever had a real problem with the staff. But let's start with the good. Great layout, patio and front bar with dancefloor in back. 2nd level has nice lounge space and another bar and small dancefloor. Good light and sound system, good stage. Tuesday has The Dreamgirls Revue, WeHo's premiere drag show. Friday has 18+ Gameboi geared at an Asian crowd. Seems that their best nights are the 18+ nights. That should tell you something, the kids go there because there aren't many options, those with experience know better! So what's wrong with the place? First off, it hasn't had any true updates to the place in at least 10 years. They really need a remodel. The owner micromanages the place way too much. Cameras on the bartenders, not just for cash purposes, but to watch how much they pour. He also watches the front cashier like a hawk to make sure people aren't getting in free. They are crazy with their cover charges. They will start a new night, and 10 people could be in the bar and they charge $8. Or like Wed nights for Fuego (latin), they stopped charging for over a year, and it wasn't all that busy anymore, but they started charging $8 again and didn't give you anything more! For a cover charge, I want open bar, drink specials, gogo boys (and not the same few you have used for 5 years now), a special performance, SOMETHING! The drinks historically have been overpriced, weak, and smaller than other WeHo bars. Then about a year ago they switched to the acrylic glasses, EVEN SMALLER! You get way more for your money at other bars in walking distance. On 18+ nights, 21+ still pay the same cover, yet we are paying the bills with our drinking! One of the biggest wastes is the upstairs. Such a great space, and so great to look down on the dancefloor and stage and have a place to chill. But it's hardly ever open! It really doesn't take much effort to have it open. Even if the upstairs bars isn't open, secure the booze, and let people spread out, have a space to chill, security and bar backs only need to walk through every so often to make sure things are cool and pick up glasses. Great space, wasted! It really is too bad, this club has so much potential if they would lighten up the purse strings a little, invest a little more in decor and promotions, they would realize they could make a lot more money and be busy all week instead of 2 or 3 nights.

    Great hidden latin gem

You can't tell it from looking at the entrance in this strip mall bar, but it's really big! Two dancefloors downstairs, dancefloor and stage upstairs with a nice outdoor patio. Lots of guys who speak only Spanish go here. FUN crowd. Sundays are packed with live Mariachi bands, dance music, drag shows, latin music. One thing I hate on Sundays is the number system where you have to stay downstairs until you see your numbers come up and then you are allowed upstairs. I guess to control the numbers in each room, but lame. Taco bar on patio is good.

They give you a token, and you can keep it to use during any happy hour. Keeps you coming back! Gets packed during games. We all love it and hate it. With love!

Been going to the Abbey since it was a small, narrow coffee shop and bar. Has been fun to watch the changes and see what a beautiful bar it has become. My friends and I have all gone through phases where we loved it, and phases where we hated it. Like any gay bar that starts to get str8 attention, we always hate when our space is 'invaded'. But it also depends when you go. We pretty much wouldn't be caught there on a Fri or Sat night, would never wait in line for this place. At the moment we love it best on nice days between 4 and 6. Can also take advantage of the happy hour specials! Food is not amazing, but good. Wouldn't go out for dinner there specifically, but if you are wanting a cocktail and some eye entertainment, lunch/dinner/bar food is good here. Coffee/dessert bar is good. Out of towners love it, so if you have a visitor, it's a must go. Some say it's their favorite bar ever, even yes, the str8 ones.

Love the space here. Nice big patio, plenty of restrooms, indoors is darker with pool table, bar, and touch screens. When they have gogos they get frisky. LA hasn't had much as far as 'backroom bars' for many years since these were cracked down on. Seems to be coming back a little. More sleaze in the air! Saturday afternoons and some happy hours have been real cruisey. Wed night "DarkBar" is fun. Still not like the old days, but definitely a good atmosphere for cruising and getting frisky. I do give them credit for starting the happy hour specials craze in WeHo. But honestly, never understand why this place is so popular. On more than one occasion have waited for more than 20 minutes or even 30 minutes for our server to check on us. Typically they are off flirting with someone, or chatting with one table. On more than one occasion have gone up to the bar ourselves to get drinks, that certainly got the servers attention. Twice were told that this is their section and if you are going to sit at a table you have to order from them. Then serve us!!!! Not to mention the mixed drinks are usually weak, margarita mix is way sweet. Food is ok. Love the rooftop here, great views down to the Blvd. If only they had it open more often.
