Vote in Best of GayCities: Best Bar to Take your Mom

The next Best of GayCities, 2010: The World According to Gays category, Bar to Take Your Mom, might not have been possible even a few years ago. Today gay boys can be spotted dragging their doting mothers to bars everywhere, and no one is surprised when she ends up the belle of the ball.

However, you do have to be somewhat cautious. Mom might not appreciate really loud house music, for instance. And well Vokda probably won’t do the trick. Wine and martinis are more to her liking. Depending on your mother’s marital status, go-go goys and strippers are probably not the best idea. Ditto leather and “back room” bars.

So we picked out five bars for their loungy, comfortable feel. These are the kind of places you can sip a drink and converse without feeling compelled to run off to stuff dollar pills into jockstraps or shout to be heard over Lady Ga Ga played at ear splitting decibals. Which of the following does not belong in this list? 🙂 Give your take, and you might even win a trip for two to Berlin!

Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club, Chicago

Blackbird, San Francisco

The Abbey, Los Angeles

Swinging Richards, Atlanta
