Laissez les bons temps rouler, because Mardi Gras is near.
The worldwide celebration encourages Catholics to feast, drink much wine, and generally indulge in their various vices before the long 40 days of fasting for Lent. Of course, any reason to indulge is a party for everyone, Catholic or otherwise.
New Orleans is synonymous with this annual celebration, where there are parades and parties and much day-drinking for the final days of Mardi Gras season. The revelry reaches its peak on Fat Tuesday (March 5 of this year) as well as the weekend before. It goes without saying that finding a place to stay in NoLa during the festivities can be a challenge.
Here are some fantastic new (or newly-redesigned) hotels to check out and, hopefully, check in:
Hotel Peter and Paul
What better way to celebrate the sins of the season than by sleeping in a converted church? Hotel Peter and Paul opened in late 2018, and is walking distance to popular Bourbon St. bars.
Windsor Court Hotel
Windsor Court is a familiar name to the New Orleans hotel scene, but the $15 million renovation of its guestrooms and common spaces in 2018 has breathed vibrant new life into this boutique hotel.
The Eliza Jane New Orleans
Nine downtown warehouses are connected as one unique boutique hotel, The Eliza Jane, complete with industrial chic decor and elegant guestrooms, as well as a French restaurant. Part of the Hyatt brand of hotels, The Eliza Jane is located downtown close to The French Quarter.
The Drifter Hotel
The Drifter has been open since Spring of 2018, and it creating a name for itself on the Nola hotel scene. This former roadside motel was redesigned as a social gathering space, and hosts parties for events like Southern Decadence.
