PHOTOS: Queer royalty reigns over Pride March in Los Angeles

La La Land is back and it’s hotter than ever! For the first time in two years, LA’s Pride community came together to celebrate. Tens of thousands of people turned up under the searing SoCal sun. The star-studded streets of Hollywood and Sunset came alive as parade-goers and party people waved their Pride flags and rainbow-clad asses down the iconic Boulevards.

This year was special for LA Pride. For the first time in over 40 years, the Parade took place outside of West Hollywood. The change in location celebrated the origins of Los Angeles Pride, which held its first parade on Hollywood Boulevard.

That inaugural Parade in 1970 was the first permitted Pride Parade in American history. However, the change in location signaled a deeper meaning. Moving away from the predominantly white WeHo sent the message of a new, more inclusive, and diverse Pride.

Everyone knows Hollywood as the land of celebrities. So, naturally, LGBTQ celebrities were involved in every step of the way. Saturday’s concert was headlined by the iconic Christina Aguilera. She brought out Paris Hilton, Kim Petras, and Mya. Between her set, which consisted of classics like “Dirrty,” and Paris’ DJ set, Xtina made sure to protest Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Backup go-go dancers held up signs, encouraging the audience to “Say Gay,” which the crowd did gleefully.

Sunday’s Pride March played host to a huge roster of gay icons. The likes of Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Kim Chi were spotted in the parade. Hunky dudes and gorgeous dolls strutted alongside these queens while bops like “Toxic” and “Dancing Queen” blasted from the float stereos.
