CLOSED: Coliseum Nightclub Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
First to Review - October 19, 2005 Visited: March 2005
This is the club that killed gay clubbing in SOBE a few years back...at least on Fridays and Saturdays. While it's the only real deal in South Florida (w/ brand-name DJ's, shirtless club boys, etc.), it lacks the magic of SOBE clubs of yesteryear or big night clubs in other cities. The location next to the port entrance and across from car dealers and freeway ramps doesn't help. Still, a fun night can be had here.
The Cock Bar/Club in New York
First to Review - July 13, 2005 Visited: July 2005
This East Village dive was packed with hot and frisky Abercrombie types. NYC laws (decency, smoking, you name it, did not seem to apply) The sometimes closed, sometimes dark back room got it into trouble at times over the years. The owners finally closed the Ave A/12th St location and have re-branded their other bar (formerly "the Hole" on 2nd Ave) as "the Cock." Let's hope it fits.
CLOSED: Cathode Ray Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

As a former SOBE boy, I found Cathode Ray offered a refreshing change to the Miami haunts, with more "all-American" types. On Saturday nights this is a great stop-off before going "out out" to the Coliseum on Saturdays, where there would tend to be cute boys up until about midnight. It gets a bit trollier later, when the Coliseum gets hopping. Friday nights can be good, as well. Other nights are more hit-or-miss.
Rosie's Bar and Grill Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

I never new a hamburger joint could be so gay! A fun place to stop for a burger...or to get drinks while you wait for your table at Galanga, a top-notch Thai Restaurant next door. (They'll give you a pager)
Georgie's Alibi Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

It's in a strip mall (although a gay strip mall, believe it or not--perhaps its only saving grace). It also seems to have a permanent unidentifiable stench, which smells something like cheese that has been left out. For that reason, you'll probably want to stay in the outdoor seating area.
Boardwalk Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

it's naughty. It's tragic. It's Fort Lauderdale. It has some entertainment value if you're killing sometime before going to Club Ft. Laud. (which is right down the street), but you'll get bored/creeped out quickly.
CLOSED: Copa Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

The name is as tired as the club looks from the outside. Never been inside, but been warned that the interior--and the clientele--are equally tired. Don't go in by accident when you mean to go to the Coliseum, next door--Ft. Lauderdales only "real" gay club.
Ramrod Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

Not my scene personally, but if you want to check out the old school, pre-yuppified Ft. Lauderdale gay scene, this is the place. Dress somewhat appropriately. Leave the pastel tank top and khaki shorts at the guest house.
Bourbon Pub / Parade Bar/Club in New Orleans

Along with Oz, it's one of two anchors at the gay corner--Bourbon and St. Anne. For Mardi Gras or Southern Decadence, you may have to pay a cover at night for Parade (upstairs). Bring (or earn) lots of beads to reward flashers on the street from its famous balconies. Fun, young, cute, boozy crowd on major weekends. OK other times. Hot dancers and bar tenders.

Great bar, but still my second choice (after Bourbon Pub) in the gay heart of NOLA. You may have to pay a cover at night, particularly for Mardi Gras, Halloween, and Southern Decadence. Bring (or earn) lots of beads to reward flashers on the street from its famous balconies. Lots of naughtiness to be had. Somewhat "dirtier" and more tweaked out than Bourbon Pub.
Lafitte's - Cafe Lafitte in Exile Bar/Club in New Orleans

This overlooked step-sister of the more famous Oz and Bourbon Pub can be a great place to buy your drinks for the street during the more crowded weekends. It's only one block away (in the quiet direction). The crowd isn't as cute, but fun can definitely be had.
Blake's on the Park Bar/Club in Atlanta
First to Review - July 10, 2005 Visited: July 2005
Blakes is one of the best things about living in Midtown. It's a "regular" bar (not a club or a restaurant" with "regular" guys (of the oh-so-hot-All-American-Atlanta-boy variety). Very social and fun after work on well into the evening.
