PHOTOS: On Saturday night Benjamin Bratt received honors at Equality California’s Equality Awards in San Francisco. The Private Practice star shared the Allies in Media Award with his brother, Peter, for their work in raising trans awareness with their 2012 film, La Mission. The Bratts and their fellow honorees, Sen. Ricardo Lara and lesbian activist Madeleine Lim, were applauded by EQCA director John O’Connor and board member Moez Kaba, openly gay U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, gay Eagle Scout Matthew Kimble, mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty, labor activist Dolores Huerta and singer Frenchie Davis, who performed for the audience.
Each year EQCA honors the inspirational leaders and outstanding allied organizations whose selfless work helps create a better world for all people. The Equality Awards recognize the achievements of the organization, its sponsors, members, staff and volunteers, as well as the LGBT community.
The event is the first in a series of awards ceremonies hosted by the statewide LGBT group—other events will be held in Palm Springs. Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego.
