making a splash

Jonathan Bennett is a godfather now: for a Carnival Cruises ship

“Mean Girls” actor Jonathan Bennett has made a splash from the silver screen to the Broadway stage. Now, he’s taking his act to the high seas.

Later this month, he takes on the role of “godfather” for Carnival Cruises’ newest vessel- Carnival Firenze. Bennett will join the captain, crew, and guests to help christen the brand-new behemoth on April 24.

Fashioned to emulate Florence, Italy’s romantic and opulent streets, this grand cruise ship embarks on its maiden voyage on April 25th. The naming ceremony, complete with the smashing of the champagne bottle by the Godfather himself, will take place the day before it sets sail. It is a long-held tradition for ships to be given a godparent to help usher in a wave of luck for the many trips to come.

Bennett, an avid Carnival Cruise fan, was ecstatic when Carnival President Christine Duffy snuck into the rehearsal room where Jonathan was diligently rehearsing for his upcoming Broadway show to share the news.

He and his husband spent their honeymoon on one of Carnival’s epic cruiseliners. They have experienced countless adventures aboard many others, making Bennet the ideal candidate to christen the newest addition to the Carnival fleet.

He joins an impressive list of names who’ve earned the title of godparent: Julie Andrews, Jay Leno, and Dame Judi Dench, to name a few; even Queen Elizabeth II cracked a few bottles in her time.

Setting sail in Long Beach, Carnival Firenze will take guests on voyages year-round to the tropical and ever-gorgeous Mexican Riviera. From entertainment and relaxation to incredible restaurants offering delectable Italian cuisine, the luxury and comfort of Carnival Fun Italian Style is an experience guests will never forget.
