Roller Coasters, Wonder Woman & AIDS Walk D.C.

In a politically-charged city like Washington, DC, it’s very important to hone one’s wit. Gays and lesbians must inject regular doses of frivolity and revelry in order to ease the burdens of being tasked with solving the worlds’ problems. Or, in some cases, making them worse. It’s why our boys of It’s a Gay World host their weekly podcast there, serving up a well-deserved break to the Capital City’s weary queer crusaders.

Dale & Scott were at local amusement park Kings Dominion last weekend for the annual Gay Night celebration that benefits the non-profit Brother Help Thyself. Together with half the gay boys and lesbians from DC and surrounding cities, they rode the rides hard, left wet (um, it started raining) and lived to talk about it. To experience some of it for yourself, even if you’re well outside the beltway, you might get a kick out of their most recent It’s A Gay Thing DC podcast episode, where they relive the super-gay evening under the stars.

“Think Southern Decadence, without all the nudity and sex,” Scott says. “Drinks, gays, roller coasters, and no kids. What else could you ask for?”

Together with their usual cast of characters, the hosts run down the gay news and gossip of the week, throw in a little dirty flirting and then settle down for an eye-opening chat with Chip Lewis of the Whitman-Walker Clinic, DC’s primary HIV/AIDS services provider.

Chip stopped by the studio to talk up the October 2 AIDS Walk Washington. The Walk—the clinic’s single largest fundraiser of the year—will be hosted by Washington area resident Lynda Carter of Wonder Woman fame. (Yup, she’s the one who made skintight red, white and blue world famous and taught so many young boys who to twirl.)

Swing by the site and listen to the audio stream or head to iTunes and download the free episode. And while you’re at it, check out the GayCities Washington, DC guide (edited by Scott!) and start making your plans for a fall visit, the very best time to tour and party in our nation’s capital.
