Top Ten Gay Beaches in the World

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2011

1. Fort Lauderdale: Sebastian Street Gay Beach

Located near the gay resorts, Sebastian Street is the beach destination for visitors and locals alike. Populated mostly by men, this beach is see-and-be-seen in that low-key Lauderdale way.

2. San Diego: Black’s Beach (Photo by Chris Leigh)

Probably the most famous nude beach in America, Black’s Beach is also one of San Diego’s most popular gay destinations—imagine that!

3. Sydney: North Bondi Beach

Lifeguards in budgie smugglers (Speedos), sunbathing on white sand under endless sun. No, that’s not heaven. That’s Bondi Beach, just outside Sydney. The gay section is on the North end, and the further north you get the gayer (and fleshier) it gets.

4. Maui: Little Beach

It’s a bit of a hike from the “Big Beach,” but the behinds to behold makes it worth the effort.

5. Rio: Farme de Amoedo

“Barbies” is the local name for Rio’s muscle men and Farme de Amoedo beach is where you’ll find them. Also known, for good reason, as “Farme Gay.”

6. Rehoboth: Poodle Beach

Poodle Beach is located just south of the boardwalk, and you could surf on the board like abs of some of the guys there. It can get crowded here during the season, but it is the hot spot in the energetic social scene. Lesbians tend to prefer North Shores Beach.

7. Sitges: Playa De La Bassa Rodona (Photo by julianen)

Grab a towel, lotion and sunglasses: Spain’s hottest bodies soak in the sun here. Right across from Hotel Calipolis, between the life guard station and picnic restaurant–and more muscle guys than you can toss a stick at (maybe not a great idea!).

8. Puerto Vallarta: Playa Los Muertos

The gay beach is at the south end of the Playa Los Muertos and is usually referred to as the “blue chairs” for the seating put out by the gay resort of the same name. Many a lad has had the back end of his speedo glued to these chairs for the better part of a sunny day, soaking in the sun, booze and intensely homoerotic vibes. The flirty interplay between the mostly Mexican locals and gay visitors from around the globe is fun to watch.

9. Fire Island: Pines Beach

The beach is an extension of the area’s party mentality, and is packed with eye candy, particularly Chelsea boys. Nudity is allowed on the shore as well but most guys prefer the fabulousness of a speedo.

10. Cape Town: Clifton 3rd (Photo by patelsmith)

Clifton 3rd is completely protected from the sea breezes that sweeps most of Cape Town. It faces west so the sunsets are stunning, setting around 8 p.m. in summer. Take care to “hide” alcoholic drinks, as drinking in public is forbidden and strictly monitored. Sip one under a beach towel with your new friend as the sun sets on this gay paradise.

You cannot go topless or nude at Bondi Beach – did you research this article at Cruisingforsex.com?

The unofficial gay section is the North end of the beach.

However, the best nude beach in Sydney is Obelisk Beach which is on the North Shore of Sydney Harbour – its a bit of a hike down but it is sheltered with clean sand and (when the tide is in) clear clean water. Bushland around is notoriously cruisy.

Thanks to Pewit. He is correct, boys. Don’t disrobe on the wrong end of the beach! The gay section of Bondi Beach is on the North end, and the further north you get the gayer (and fleshier) it gets. Have fun!

Just to let ya know, the photo of the los Muertos beach scene in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is from my Gay Puerto Vallarta Travel Guide site, http://www.discoveryvallarta.com
Glad to see that it’s considered one of the top ten beaches in the world, The beach and town are at least 4 or 5 times more popular than only 12-15 years ago, and I would call Vallarta probably the largest gay vacation resort area now in latin America for Americans and Canadians, plus the many gay mexicans who come from all over the country for the relaxing beach town atmosphere. The gay beach actually consists of the traditional Blue Chairs areas, which has been the gay beach for some 20 years+, in addition to the much larger Green Chairs area of the PV gay beach contiguous to the Blue Chairs. There was also a newer mostly gay beach area in front of the Playa del sol/Blue Seas condominiums, a stone’s throw from the Blue and Green chairs, but that beach front restaurant and bar run by Grant closed after this past winter season and has yet to open again….
