As March brightens into April, we’re welcoming ever-longer days and warmer weather in The City by the Bay. Here are five ways to spend time out and about, showing off that (hopefully) gym-toned body you’ve been hiding all winter long.
1. San Francisco Giants return (Giants v. Diamondbacks) + an evening at Pier 39
Snag tickets for the Giant’s opening day (April 8, 1:35 p.m.) at AT&T Park in San Francisco. And with seats starting at $6 a pop, there’s no reason not to bring your posse along for the ride. Be sure to check out the team roster before heading over to the ballpark–quite a few hotties this year! And, after watching your favorite catchers and pitchers at work, grab the gaggle and hop on the Muni toward Pier 39 for a bite to eat, live music and spectacles by talented street performers.
2. Pop your cherry…at the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival
Break out the floral hot pants and celebrate Japanese culture at the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival–expected to draw more than 200,000 visitors–the first two weekends in April. The festival culminates in a colorful parade on April 20.
3. Yes, you can hit on a Hunky Jesus
San Francisco loves its bearded boys–especially when they look (purportedly) like Jesus. Join these Messianic lookalikes and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on Easter (April 20) in Golden Gate Park’s Hellman Hollow for the appropriate amount of debauchery to celebrate the official end of Lent.
4. Get science-y at the Exploratorium
Flex a different muscle (your brain) during an afternoon at the Exploratorium, a neat, hands-on science museum just steps from bustle of Embarcadero, downtown dining and the verve of Fisherman’s Wharf. Be sure to stop by the “revealing bodies” exhibit (it’s not as kinky as it sounds), which explores the changing ways humans have conceptualized the human body over space, time and cultural distances.
5. Watch something…other than porn
Food, film, friends, sunshine…and wine. What could be a better combination? Hop on the free shuttle from San Francisco to the Sonoma Film Festival the first week in April. And if you’re hankering for more cinematic release, catch at least a few of the more than 200 on-screen masterpieces featured at the International Film Festival in San Francisco in late April.
