Broadway Backwards, an annual celebration where gays and lesbians see their stories told through the great songs of musical theatre raised a whopping $423,182 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. The evening included a variety of show-stopping performances by celebrities and Broadway Babies like Jonathan Groff, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Beth Leavel, Norm Lewis, Billy Porter, Andrew Rannells, Stephanie J. Block, and Patricia Morison. Tony Award winner Julie White co-hosted the evening with The New Normal‘s Bebe Wood. Highlights of the evening were Groff performing “I Got Lost in His Arms” from Annie Get Your Gun combined with “Goodnight My Someone” from Music Man, Billy Porter’s take on Kander and Ebb’s “But the World Goes Round,” Stephanie J. Block’s “Finishing the Hat” from Sunday in the Park with George,” and Norm Lewis singing “Home” from The Wiz.
