Curaçao’s Get Wet Weekend is such a special celebration that we decided to compile a guide to some of the hotspots on the super-gay friendly Dutch Caribbean Island, based on my own recent trip there.
Curaçao is the largest of the ABC islands in the Lesser Antilles (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) and there plenty of outstanding places to stay in the capital, Willemstad, and all over the island. I wanted a taste of both sides of the island, so I checked my bags at the Hotel Kura Hulanda Spa and Casino in the heart of Willemstad for the first half of my visit, then spend the rest of my week diving in the gorgeous blue waters of the Caribbean and relaxing on the beach at the Lodge Kura Hulanda & Beach Club.
This year’s Get Wet Weekend, hosted by the local LGBT organization, Curaçao Gay Plasa, will take place September 27-30. The Thursday-Sunday weekend will offer all kinds of colorful activities for travelers of every persuasion. Several IGLTA hotels are offering discounted rates for people flying south for the weekend. The Avila, Floris Suite, and Hotel Kura Hulanda Spa and Casino are three of the recommended hotels.
