Queerty/GayCities photoblogger Jeffrey James Keyes showed up at the Manhattan City Clerk’s office at 141 Worth Street Sunday morning to take pictures of the first few same-sex couples to get married in New York City. Christine Quinn introduced five of the first couples to a loving crowd that cheered as each couple waved their certificate of marriage.
Mayor Bloomberg and the New York Police Department were good enough to keep the protesters away from the celebratory crowd but we caught three men who voiced their disapproval. These individuals were quickly escorted away from the scene and the morning continued peacefully. Nearby, in Thomas Paine Park, puppets Rod and Ricky from the the hit musical Avenue Q tied the knot in front of a crowd of supporters.
Congratulations, New York!
