I am not a "transexual"--I am not planning to "transition". But, I am not "JUST a CrossDresser" either...it is not something I do, like a hobby, it is WHO I AM. Reality Checkpoint: LABELS are how we catagorize things and people, NOT how we understand them. I like to dress up and go dancing at clubs. I like to work on my car and motorcycle. I like to go shopping for pretty cloths. I like to take my .45 to the pistol range. Etc. If you want to know more about me, feel free to ask, just be prepared for an actual answer that may not be what you expect...

  • Cheap, Easy, and Satisfying -- like me! :-)
1:45am, the clubs just closed and you realize you are starving, where do you go? Oh look, Hot Rods is open until 3! The suprise is, they are not a total rip-off, the simple food is actually quite good, and it is even a fun place for a quick bite at 8pm, not just when you are desperate. Recommendation: Polish Dog.

  • "SALOON" is exactly accurate!
There is a certain charm about a place as honest about itself as The Merc, and you have to appreciate it for what it is. If you are looking for a place to get hammered, this is it. The drinks are strong and cheap. If you want to have a conversation, it's way to loud. If you want to dance, to bad, they don't do that here. If you want to avoind lung cancer, forget it, it is full of smoke blowing in from the back porch. If you want to play pool...well YES you can do that, it's a BAR :-) It is exactly what it is, you have to love that. If a "dive bar" is not what you are looking for--look elsewhere.

  • My #1 hometown spot.
If I have the night off at home, this is where you'll find me. Yes, I hit all the other clubs in the area, but I almost always end up back here by last call. + Anyone is welcome and everyone is friendly. I meet the nicest gay & lez folks, straight couples, groups of straight girls, and even a couple of other T-girls now and then. + Most nights the music is great, up-to-date high-energy (a few weeknights some guest DJs play some odd stuff, but never on important nights). + No cover Sun-Thurs and usually only $6 or $7 on Friday and Saturday. + Bartenders know how to mix a drink and the bar is set up to allow them to work efficiently and offer bars pace to hang out. + COAT CHECK (downstairs). Seriously, in the winter, this is awesome.

  • I'll be back next time I'm in San Jose!
I was in San Jose for the weekend and after reading the reviews decided to give Splash a try and I'm glad I did! + Great atmosphere, very up and alive with a diverse and friendly crowd. Two dance floors (big one downstairs and a smaller one upstairs) and both DJs were on it with good high-energy music--there was never a moment that one or the other wasn’t playing something I wanted to move to. -/+ Bar service was kind of slow but the tenders were very nice and quick once they got to me. The place was PACKED, so they were up against it all night and the service bars are poorly-designed so the tenders cannot work efficiently and were definitely doing the best they could. + The whole place was clean and well-maintained. Someone dropped a drink on the downstairs dance floor and the crew immediately came out and cleaned it up (lots of places could learn a lesson here.) = Every bit as good as my favorite hometown clubs in Sac, I’ll be back!

  • Not what I expected or what i claims.
I was in San Jose for the weekend and after reading the description and numerous positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. - Headlined as an: “expansive video bar”. Well, not really, it’s actually a pretty small place with a tiny dance floor. + It was CLEAN and orderly and well maintained. + The actual service bar is huge (taking up probably 1/3 of the available floor space) offering lots of room to mingle and was well staffed with friendly tenders who were able to keep the crowd served in a timely manner. $7 for a simple rum&coke…which was not properly mixed and nearly undrinkably strong but some people like them that way so it’s a matter of taste I guess. - Advertised on their website as: “Downtown San Jose's most diverse bar…”. I’m not sure how they rate that, but last night it was 70%+ guys in jeans and cowboy hats. Nobody made me feel unwelcome, but I quickly got tired of saying “yo no hablo” = Overall: Not a bad place, but not even close to the impression I got from the website and reviews, and even if it was what I was looking for not worth a $10 cover.
