This coffee shop does not offer ambiance. It does not offer great food or comfortable chairs. What it does provide is free internet and great coffee. A group of 6 to 7 gay men have been meeting here every Thursday evening at 7:30 pm and are usually joined by whom ever wishes to stop by to catch up on the latest! It's also a great place to go if you don't have internet where you live or are staying and perhaps close enough that you can give Rogers, Telus or Bell the boot and just walk down the street here. Surely, the price of a cup of coffee to use their internet, is worth it. The staff, typically young and subculture-oriented, aren't forced into any dress code, so you're dealing with real people and you'll typically hear Electronic music played at a louder volume than the elevator music at the Second Cup across the street. Opened February 6, 1998, Down Under has developed its reputation as a clean, well run establishment which actively supports the Gay community. During the construction stages the management team was careful to ensure that each concept of the business met with the approval of the various City of Edmonton agencies involved as well as Edmonton Police Services. This openness and honesty developed an excellent working relationship which has been continued over the last few years.
