    Hustlers, Trolls and Drugs...Oh My!

Just skip this bar by. How it's remained open as long as it has is a Mystery. If, however, you are looking for street boys, by all means, this is the place.

    Much Better than the Last

The new location of Guava Lamp, I have to admit is much better than it's last location. Located in the corner of a strip center, the patrons are a mix of men and women, generally the preppy, collegiate, A&F crowd mixed with older professional gay men and women. There is only one bar in the place, but with quick service and a friendly staff. Semi circular booths run along the outside walls. There is a "lounge" with sofa and chairs located at the back of the bar along with a pool table. Flat screen televisions provide videos of all the top pop / dance music and add to the ultra modern decor. If you like "Martini Bars", with a good size crowd of friendly people, I recommend you come here.

    Drag and More

A small bar, Cousins my well be the only "Drag Bar" left in Houston. This reviewer doesn't find anything at this bar worth going to see. If you are, however, into the Drag/Hustler/Elderly crowd, then you may just find this bar the place to go. Other than that, I don't have much information.

    Ahhh. The Ripcord

This neiborhood Levi/Leather/Bear bar has been around for years and I for one have seen many changes. I consider it to be my home bar. For the most part the men there are men and the women are rare. The bartenders there are great and friendly - as long as they're not busy. The music is good and not too loud that you can't carry on a coversation. They have a number of video games you can play, two pool tables and an area where they show movies on a wide screen TV. They also have a leather store inside the bar. They have expanded their patio and are home to many organzations, i.e., The Brotherhood of Pain, The Misfits, et al. If you're into the Levi/Leather/Bear crowd and are not intimidated by men who are upfront, then this is the bar to go to.

    Not Like Heaven

South Beach, or as the locals call it SoBe, would be a fantastic dance club. The music is HOT and the bar is phenomenal. With a huge dancefloor, complete with dance boxes, shirtless dancers, awesome light shows and a "fog machine" that is so intense, you can't see 10 inches in front of your face. Yellow warning lights announce the coming of the fog which lowers the temperature on the dance floor. Barbacks are there to prevent any late comers to the dancefloor, entrance and to maintain the safety of the crowd on the dance floor. It only lasts about 30 seconds, but well worth it. This reviewer, however, doesn't see much worth in the rest of the place. Over priced drinks and cover with a fair portion of the patrons being chemically friendly. If you like Twinks, dancing, drinking and pretentious attitudes this may just be your bar. I'm sorry to say, it's not mine.

    S&M means Stand and Model

JR's is a great bar. Video's, Dancers, "scary oh key"(Sundays and Thursdays) and a Go-Go boys dance contest with Drag Queens as your mc's on Sunday Nights. I've always enjoyed myself when there. The crowd is a great mix of people. The attitude level isn't off the meter and you can always find a friendly face. Definately not a cruise bar, but lots of eye candy. The "type" is more preppy, but not overly pretentious. It's not a bar that's filled with $30k a year Millionaires, who still live with Mums and Dads, and drive their Beemers/Merc's that mums and dads bought for them. There are a few, but they tend to group themselves like gnats. The music is always lively and they keep current with the videos. There is one DJ, however, that finds it necessary to "grunt" when announcing the drink specials moving from one area of the bar to another - very annoying, but if you can get past that, I highly recommend it.
