This year's Motor City Pride drew an estimated 35,000 people. While the shooting in Orlando weighed heavily on the event, a memorial tent for those killed in the tragedy was erected for festival goers could leave messages. The Parade’s Grand Marshall was Former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer, a longtime legislative champion of equality for LGBTQ Michiganders. The event culminated on Sunday with a parade through downtown around famous Motor City landmarks including the famous Joe Louis Fist, the Renaissance Center, Cobo Arena and Conference Center before culminating in a mutli-stage event at Hart Plaza. The headliner for the concerts was out singer Steve Grand. Ann Arbor’s Necto Lounge also created a dance space in the Plaza, which included a setting for J-Sette dance competitions.
