The Beautiful Beaches And Boys Of Laguna

In Los Angeles, the gay beach is Will Rogers Beach; in San Diego, the boys can be found at Black’s Beach. But when gays anywhere in SoCal want the truly luxe experience, they gather on the glorious sands of Laguna.

Often overlooked by visitors traveling to Southern California for simply being a sleepy beach town, the city of Laguna Beach has some of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the U.S. Cliffs jut upwards in dramatic formations and reach into the sapphire blue and emerald green waters, forming little coves.

The beach near West St. is the site of community volleyball games, but on holiday weekends it is overrun by gays, who converge on the sand to run around in tiny swimsuits and flop around in the waves.

We here at Outlander have a healthy preference for adventure, so on our recent visit to Laguna Beach we wandered off of West St. and headed a bit north. This involved climbing over a rock formation or two, but we were wearing sturdy sandals so we weren’t deterred. Not only did we see spectacular sites like the keyhole arch (pictured above) at Pearl St. Beach, but the tide was rolling in and we caught the waterspout at Goff Island, which pops through a crevice in the rocks with each rolling wave.

There is also cliffjumping to the south, at Table Rock Beach, which is technically verboten, but we here at Outlander also have a healthy disrespect for rules so we’ll try that next visit.

If adventure isn’t for you, fret not—in Southern California, the beaches are most popular at sunset, so relax and enjoy the view. It is a beautiful sight. Speaking of beautiful sights, there is much to enjoy with those volleyball courts at West St., so bring sunglasses to disguise yourself as your stare. If someone catches your eye on the sand, you may have a chance to say hi later at Main Street Bar, a rowdy little dive that packs them in at night.

Please remember, this is a protected area, so don’t pick up any shells or marine objects to take home. Picking up locals, however, is highly encouraged.
