GayCities Members report that The Nelsons Head has closed

Local pub with quirks and queers
An attractive, intimate and kinda alternative corner space on the outskirts of trendy Shoreditch, this traditional pub was reinvented in 2007 by Farika Skilton and Patrick Black, who hang saleable art works and ceremonially change certain aspects of the decor every few months. Housed in a corner Tudor building, the pub attracts locals, artists and music people, and tends to go especially gay at the weekend. Sunday's 9am start captures not only plant and flower hounds from gay-appeal and immediately adjacent Columbia Road Market [see entry] but also marathon Saturday night gay good-timers, in a way that the Royal Oak in Columbia Rd once did. There's an eclectic jukebox but no food, though the pub offers cutlery, plates and napkins to customers who've arranged for takeaway food to be delivered to the pub. Dog-friendly, but no garden. By at least 2011 some of the clientele from the George & Dragon and the Joiners Arms (defunct as of Jan 2015) had migrated here. Sadly the Nelsons Head closed its doors on 25 February 2015, possibly down to exorbitant rent.
