    Disappointing meal

I was thrilled when Kent Rigsby took over this restaurant, but NOT thrilled with a burnt to a crisp slab of ribs that were dry and tasteless except for the sauce which was really good I must admit. The calamri appitizer was probably the best we've had and the sides were great. I just wasn't thrilled with a kitchen or a server that would put a totally burnt piece of meat on a plate and serve it. On a side note, maybe because we got there before sundown, but the place just looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. That, plus all of the 'help' seemed more interested in the ball game on the tv than actually working left us in agreement that we probably won't go back there for a really long time!

Great for people watching, but poor sevice

While the energy can be great, we have YET to have a decent meal there or even good service. On our last visit we had a cutie-pie waiter with attitude who when asked about recommendations on the menu replied that nothing on the menu was special or even that good. Of course, this was the same waiter who told us they had run out of pizzas for the evening (mind you it was 7:30p) and when we joked with him about all of the pizza orders we saw coming out of the kitchen for the next hour and a half, just rolled his eyes and told us we could talk with his manager if we wanted. Mediocre food at best. It reminds me of some gay other restaurants that think just because they cater to the GLBT crowd they don't have to do anything special in the way of food, drink or service - that would actually be a restaurant! Go for drinks at the bar and then walk to numerous other choices for good food and service!

Hard to find, but worth the search!

This is certainly one of our favorite restaurants! Regardless of being there for a special occasion or a spur of the moment choice, we have always been thoroughly pleased with our visits even when they didn't get things just right. The owners are great people who enjoy people, food and wine and it shows in every visit. While the inside dining room is small, the patio is great. While the food is always above par, we have seen some snooty diners who believe that the wait staff should not have any personality of their own, so if you're one of those stick up your butt kind of people, try another place. Basi Italia is about enjoying life, food, wine and friends. And, when you can get some of the best meals anywhere around, it makes for a special night each and every time.
