Fun place, great food
You have to come here on a Saturday night, for both the excellent food and the riotous drag queen-hosted karaoke. A point taken off for how crowded it gets (pretty much a fire hazard), but that's a testament to its popularity, especially with the 20-something crowd. Generally straight/gay-friendly crowd and an efficient wait staff.
Great Spot!
Been here a couple of times, never been disappointed. Great food, very nice beer/drink menu, very friendly and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere (gay/straight). A perfect place for a date or dinner with friends.
Nothing Special
Stopped in on Saturday evening at around 8-8:30. The place was pretty much empty, with the bartender reading the paper and the other staff looking bored. Overall, the place seemed worn out. The food was typical for a Royal Oak: tasty but not spectacular, decent portions and moderately priced. The draught beer menu was surprisingly limited and the waitress seemed annoyed to be there. A much better bet is the new Royal Oak on Slater.
