    Unpretentious and great music

Palms has no cover fee and plays mostly 80's and 90's music with a bit of current tunes thrown in. Always busy and can be very crowded as its a small venue. Get there around 10:30-11:00pm as any later and you'll be queuing up outside. Fun place, great music and no attitude.

    Friendly and great vibe

The Shift would be my favourite place to drink on Oxford St. It's been around for years and quite popular with GAM and the older crowd. The drag shows are a high quality with free entry to the downstairs bar. Upstairs is a regular venue for many a dance party and always popular. Great place to visit.

    A Sydney institution

The Impy has been around for years and after recently going through a makeover is back! The main public bar is free to get in with a couple of pool tables and lots of gay boys and lesbians to share a drink with. The back bar is where the drag shows are performed and has a cover charge which varies depending on the night you are there. The downstairs bar, although not as well patronized as the other bars is much better from my point of view. Overall, the Impy is great but their drink prices tend to be a bit high. They do have a Sunday arvo drinks special which is very popular. The downstairs bar is regularly used for theme parties which always go off! :)

    Re-vamped and worth a visit

"The Newtown" was THE place to go to back in the late 80's/early 90's. It closed at midnight and patrons would wander down the road to the Imperial Hotel (the Impy) and continue the night away. Nowadays it still closes at midnight but has had a complete makeover and it is awesome. A mix of patrons now go there from our LGBT community to the hip and quirky. Drinks are reasonable, atmosphere is welcoming and the menu of the restaurant upstairs designed to share among friends. The Newtown Hotel is well worth a visit and easily accessible by train or bus from the city, which is about 5km away.
