Walnut and pistachio tacos, ceviche, and caviar: an insider’s guide to restaurants in Key West

Fans of America’s Got Talent may recognize Randy Roberts from Season 10, when she made it to the Judges’ Cuts round singing the jazz standard “Lady Is A Tramp.” She didn’t win AGT, but she still has legions of fans. Randy is one of the most popular cabaret singers in Key West, where she is currently headlining The Crystal Room Cabaret at LaTeDa.

As is the case of most Key West nightlife, a Randy Roberts show can be a rowdy affair, as she chats with the audience and teases a patron or two. But when the wigs and makeup come off, Roberts enjoys the finer side of the island, where he can enjoy a nice dinner and a cocktail, of course.

Roberts is the ultimate Key West insider, so we asked him to suggest his favorites for a unique and quality dining experience: 1 reasons to jump on the next flight to sunny, beautiful Key West

I like to go to 915 (pronounced “nine-one-five”) after my show almost every night. I love the ceviche—it’s local grouper, and fresh. The Brussels sprouts are delish, and the pappardelle with Kobe beef bolognese is unbelievable. 915 also has a tapas and wine space upstairs, Point 5. I like the walnut and pistachio tacos. They sound strange, but they’re great. I’m not vegan, but these tacos are.

Antonia’s is an Italian restaurant with fresh pasta, and a zuppe di pesce that’s hard to beat.

Cafe Marquesa has my favorite fish dish on the island. Their black grouper with blue crab and tomato buerre blanc is my happy place.

Little Pearl has a seafood pot pie that defies imagination. Their swordfish is pretty divine as well.

A little secret in town is The Roost, on Fleming St. It’s a liquor store and cocktail bar, with light bites and craft cocktails. From 3-6pm, they have a happy hour with half price caviar!
