Nearly two million people gathered on the streets of New York to cheer on the marchers at this year’s Pride march. Joining Grand Marshals Cyndi Lauper (above) Kiehl’s president Chris Salgardo, and newlyweds Phyllis Siegel and Connie Kopelov were community groups, politicians, drag queens, Jennifer Tyrell, George Tekai, Governor Andrew Cuomo, First Girlfriend/food personality Sandra Lee, drag star Manila Luzon and Mayor Mike Bloomberg himself.
This year’s theme, “Share the Love”, marked the first anniversary of New York State’s marriage equality law. Happy couples along the route waved signs with “Thank you, Governor Cuomo” emblazoned on them, while others carried placards supporting President Obama’s re-election campaign, as well as those for trans awareness, immigration reform, marijuana legalization and Palestinian rights.
