Hundreds of thousands of revelers partied in the streets of Rio this week during the city’s legendary Carnival celebration. As ever, the parade was a veritable skin storm, with taut Brazilian bodies covered in nary but strategically placed feathers and sequins.
And as ever, there was a sizable LGBT presence at the festivities, which wrapped up on Tuesday. “The city of Rio doesn’t discriminate. It is in its essence welcoming,’’ said Rio Secretary of Tourism Antonio Figueira de Mello. “Carnival is when the city shows that side most clearly. It’s a party that welcomes the world.’’
