Our newest guide: Gay Puerto Vallarta

Our newest guide has just launched! Our Gay Guide to Puerto Vallarta is now live. We’d like to give a special thanks to our member Dan. Dan has been a member of GayCities for a long time and has reviewed places in lots of places he’s traveled. After a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta he wrote to us asking why we didn’t have a guide for Mexico’s gayest town. So we asked him to help and voila!

So many times when it comes to vacation, gay boys are so busy being fabulous or going somewhere fabulous that they don’t get a chance to relax. That’s where Puerto Vallarta , Mexico comes in. It is simply that perfect mix of sunshine, cute boys, great food, tasty cocktails, nightlife and relaxation.

vallarta_2.jpgThe center of the action is at the southern end of Playa Los Muertos. The section of beach in front of the Blue Chairs Resort is where the boys go for a splash of color. This area, (where the chairs are blue) and the adjacent area where the chairs are green (Ritmos Beach Cafe) are where you’ll find most boys during the day. Get there by noon , order your drinks and lunch right from your chair under your palapa, soak up the sun and relax. Bring a book and some magazines, or just feast on the eye candy. The ocean can be a bit cold and treacherous for some, but the sunshine is perfect for all. Stay until 4 or 5, then a quick nap or shower at your hotel.

Around 6 or 6:30 pm , head to the rooftop of the Blue Chairs Resort for a cocktail and to see the sunset. Go-go boys provide a touch of spice to the beauty of the setting sun over the ocean. And if you decide to stay later, you can enjoy drag shows, karaoke and even gay bingo, depending on the night of the week.

vallarta_1.jpgFrom there, you and your “very best new friends (who you’ve met on the roof or at the beach)” can head off to relaxing dinner at one of numerous great restaurants along the beach or in Puerto Vallarta ‘s Old Town area. Don’t miss El Arrayan in the center town for great Mexican food. Also good is Cilantro’s. La Palapa is on the pricey side, but offers delicious food and dining right on the beach (also good for brunch). Also pricey, but delicious are Trio and Cafe des Artistes near the center of town.

From there, head to Kit Kat for an after dinner martini. Friendly, cute waiters and an outdoor patio make this a perfect stop. If jazz is more to your liking, Garbo’s piano bar is just up the street.

these dance clubs don’t get busy until well after 12:30 am

For dancing and late night fun, Club Paco Paco with its rooftop bar, used to be thee place to go. And while it’s still is an option, Manana is now the top spot, with boys packing the outdoor dance floor and patio, which surround a shimmering pool in the center. Those who prefer an early evening take note: these dance clubs don’t get busy until well after 12:30 am. Stay as late as you like, then head back to your hotel for a good night’s sleep, because tomorrow, the sun and fun starts all over again.
