Axel, the world’s biggest chain of LGBTQ-focussed hotels today (30 January) opens its latest branch. The new property is in Miami Beach, Florida.
In the heart of South Beach, and just a block away from the beach, you’ll find the new AxelBeach Miami at 1500 Collins Avenue and 15th Street.
The renovated hotel will feature 160 rooms, a pool lounge area, a Sky Bar overlooking Washington Avenue, a spa and gym. There’s also a restaurant called Morrofino and a Lobby Bar. In fitting with the district’s heritage, art deco design will be featured throughout the hotel and its rooms.
The hotel was formerly known as Haddon Hall, and some of the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was filmed there.
Today’s soft launch will be followed by an official launch shortly, but bookings are now being accepted, with a 20% discount offer currently available through the hotel’s official website.

The first Axel Hotel opened in 2003 in Barcelona, where its parent company remains headquartered. From its beginnings, its aimed itself at the gay market, and brands itself as “hetero-friendly” (a spin on mainstream brands that market themselves as “gay-friendly”).
“Axel Hotels is a hotel chain focusing on the LGBTIQ+ community,’ says a statement on its website. “But above all, it is a free space where diversity and anyone without prejudice to their sexual orientation, is well received, valued and respected.”

Axel Barcelona was followed by the opening of Axel Berlin (Germany) in 2009, Ibiza and Madrid (Spain) in 2017, Venice (Italy) and San Sebastian (Spain) in 2019. There’s also an Axel vacation apartment complex in Gran Canaria, which was opened in 2013.
Following the success of their first hotels, Barcelona and Berlin also saw the opening of sister hotels – Two Hotel by Axel – in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
AxelBeach Miami is the chain’s first opening in the United States and its biggest hotel to date (its original Barcelona Axel has 101 rooms).
