‘It’s a gay bar, Pamela!’ Inside the wonderful world of The Saloon in Minneapolis

from instagram.com/calix.rivera.mn

When staff at a bar in Minneapolis, The Saloon, organized an anti-Trump protest featuring a giant “Trump baby” balloon, the ensuing local news coverage raised the ire of right-wing keyboard warriors, who peppered Facebook pages with comments of their disapproval.

One such commenter, named Pamela, took the time to inform the universe that she was heretofore boycotting The Saloon—take that!—although it seems that she was blithely unaware of the fact that The Saloon is, in fact, a nightlife establishment catering to the gays. Insert shocked gasp here.

It’s a gay bar Pamela” has now become an official thing on the internet, and we at GayCities have screamed that phrase at each other several times during the past week. It’s lots of fun.

Fortunately, The Saloon will not suffer financial hardship from Pamela’s boycott, as she had never been there before and therefore their budget for the fiscal year will remain unchanged. But what a shame that Pamela is missing out on all of the fun.

Seriously, Minneapolis is an awesome city (and so is its “twin,” St. Paul), so take a look at the things Pamela could see inside this fine establishment.

They have very attractive employees:

They host costume parties! Even when it isn’t Halloween…

This lovely lady, Lucy Stoole, has hosted “shower contests” in the on-stage shower, which seems like good clean fun:

Maybe Pamela would be interested in going to this party?

Bring your dollar bills when Naomi Smalls comes to The Saloon, because the party might get wild (and please play this video clip, because it is everything):

Even Lizzo stopped by The Saloon and had a great time. Although if Pamela probably doesn’t know who Lizzo is, either. But trust us, she’s great.

The Saloon hosts contests for Mr. Twin Cities Leather. Perhaps a pageant would be fun?

Did we mention the attractive members of The Saloon’s workforce? They are a lovely bunch.

But even with all of the fun and games, patriotism is still alive and well at The Saloon.

Let’s all take a moment to celebrate our rights to free speech, to vote, and to go to good, old-fashioned gay bars. Everyone may not agree with how we live or what we say, but we will not let that stop us from speaking up and having fun. And like it or not, we will continue to wear rainbow Speedos in public. Why? Because we can, Pamela.
