Gender-bending cosplay at New York Comic Con

instagram.com/p/B3XmNZGj6xM/

We here at Wanderlust love cosplay, and New York Comic Con 2019 brought together fans with some really good costumes, worn by fans who dressed up as their favorite characters from comics, movies, and any other realm of pop culture that makes them happy.

In particular, we were thrilled to see all of the gender-fluid interpretations, like the male Captain Marvel (above). Everybody knows Captain Marvel is a female superhero whose DNA was altered by radiation that gave her super powers, named Carol Danvers. And he looks great!

Fun fact: the illustrators behind Thor have introduced a female namesake character, and they have made it clear that she is not “Lady Thor” or any sort of secondary incarnation. She is Thor, God of Thunder. Deal with it.

But the spirit of cosplay welcomes fans to celebrate all of their favorite characters, whichever gender they happen to be. Why be limited by gender? Why does a woman dressed as Superman need to be regarded as Supergirl? If she wants to be Superman, rock on.

We celebrate our favorite looks here, with pics from NYCC of people showing off a little bit in their costumed gender-fluid finery. Plus there are photos at the end that are just hot, because why not?
