Fort Lauderdale has some of the best hotels in the U.S., whether they are located on the white sand beach or within the vibrant city center. There are also some that also put a fun twist on the typical Florida vacation.
The giant guitar-shaped hotel at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel is still under construction, with a scheduled opening date of Oct. 24, but its striking appearance is already turning heads.
The amenities—such as an enormous lazy river actually inside the hotel—are creating lots of buzz, and who wouldn’t want to swim in that VIP rooftop pool?
Here are some more picks for making an overnight stay in Fort Lauderdale memorable:
B Ocean Resort

B Ocean Resort is on the Fort Lauderdale beach, about a mile south of the gay beach at Sebastian St., and the ocean views are stunning. Downstairs in the Wreck Bar, “mermen” swim around in a glass tank and flirt with the patrons through the glass.
The Pillars Hotel
The Pillars Hotel is an elegant boutique hotel on the Intracoastal Waterway, which gives guests nice views of the city. Guests have a delicious benefit to staying here: access to The Secret Garden, the award-winning restaurant at The Pillars, is for hotel guests and restaurant club members only. There is a dress code for the restaurant, so no t-shirts, boys.
Inn Leather
Inn Leather, which you might have guessed is a leather-themed guesthouse, has rooms that are equipped with hardware for guests who wand to take a walk on the wild side. Local residents purchase day passes, and come to socialize and see who is visiting from out of town. The back yard has lots of privacy, so that clothing-optional pool deck is busy on sunny days. Shenanigans aside, Inn Leather is a perfectly nice little guesthouse, and those leather guys are well-known for being very friendly.
Ed Lugo Resort
There are lots of big, fabulous hotels in the Fort Lauderdale area, and each of them has a gorgeous pool that is perfect for a day of luxuriating with a drink in-hand. But one of our favorites is the quaint courtyard oasis of Ed Lugo Resort, a meticulously landscaped property of cottages in a residential neighborhood of Wilton Manors. The little waterfall at the end is a nice touch.
