Los Angeles broke out into a mini-Pride celebration April 7, celebrating the opening of the new Anita May Rosenstein campus at the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony came just in time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Center, the largest such organization in the nation. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti gave the dedication speech. Lily Tomlin, supervisor Sheila Kuhel, anti-Trump stalwart rep. Adam Schiff and major donor Anita May Rosenstein all spoke. Kathy Griffin and Alexandra Billings (of Transparent fame) performed.

The $141 million facilities provide 99 units of affordable housing for seniors and 100 beds for homeless youth 25 of supportive housing. Yet the new facility does more than just extend much-needed shelter. The new Center will also house a senior community center as well as Ariadne Getty Foundation Youth Academy, which will offer GED studies, vocational programs, internships and more to underprivileged youth. As the new center comes online, the existing headquarters for the Center will become a medical facility.

“We are immensely proud that the Anita May Rosenstein Campus allows us to greatly expand our services, especially to LGBT seniors and youth,” Los Angeles Center CEO Lorri L. Jean noted. “The Campus is proof that a committed group of people who have the audacity to dream big and work hard is capable of creating something the world has never seen, something that now stands as a testament to the fact that we will not turn back in our march toward full equality and humanity.”
