Apparently girl power is an inexhaustible resource: 1990s girl group The Spice Girls have returned—sort of—in the form of a new jukebox musical, Viva Forever! , starting previews November 25 at the Piccadilly Theatre on London‘s West End.
Written by AbFab’s Jennifer Saunders and produced by Mamma Mia’s Judy Craymer, Viva Forever! follows the members of a pop group whose friendship is challenged when they compete in a TV talent show. (Ooh, how meta!)
All five Spice Girl—Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell and, yes, Victoria Beckham—came together for the first time since their 2008 reunion tour to promote the musical. The girls gathered at the St. Pancras, the same Central London hotel where the filmed the video for “Wannabe” back in 1996.
It was such an exciting event, Beckham almost cracked a smile. Almost.
