Gay MLK Jr. weekend party roundup: celebrating diversity from LA to ATL

The holiday season may be over, but that just means it’s time to start the revelry all over again. MLK Jr. weekend is coming up fast and it’s the perfect time to celebrate the most diverse community in the world. Basically, party with a purpose! Black or white, Asian or Latin, bear or twink, take some time to mingle this weekend and celebrate the freedom that MLK and his friend–the great black gay man Bayard Rustin–helped inspire. We’ve rounded up some of the best parties to give you a head start on your weekend plans.

Atlanta: Wassup ‘n Atlanta — Gay nightlife erupts in Atlanta throughout the weekend. Parties are scattered all over the city, and tend to attract a heavily African-American crowd. Gear up for a wild few days, and be thankful you have Monday to rest before heading back to the grind. (Photo by Wassup’nAtl)

lustSeattle: Lust Party @ Neumos — Club Neumos goes to the gays this Saturday night as Lust takes over. The promoters promise a “positive spin on sin,” so prepare to commit a few of your own. Keep the fun going into the wee hours as the party moves to the Seattle Eagle for From Lust ’til Dawn.

Word is unclear whether she’ll be performing or not (she is stopping by after completing a show), but any excuse to party with the new queen of pop is a worthy one. (Photo by Lady Gaga)
