Reality Show in Chicago’s Boystown? Six scenes we suggest

Hundreds of twenty-somethings got primmed and not-so-proper on their way to Scarlet in Chicago for a chance at their 15 minutes. Los Angeles A-List producer and Chicago native, Dave Schlessinger, scoped around the red-tinged lounge for possible cast members of a brand new reality TV show based in the city’s gayborhood.

Appropriately titled Boystown, the show will be either an LGBT version of The Real World or have cameras following the staff of a local watering hole, like Minibar. Having lived in Boystown for a couple of years, I decided to dream up some not-too-fanciful Boystown scenes that would either be too hot even for reality TV or, perhaps, make for TV gold:

1. At Sidetrack a personal trainer catches his boyfriend of four days making out with a hair stylist who used to date a pet groomer who used to hook up with an architect who used to flirt with a different hair stylist who used to sext an interior decorator who once was at a party with a Diesel model who used to fool around with Adam Lambert when he was still a redhead!

2. In search of more sturdy handcuffs, the token straight cop character gets caught perusing the isles of popular sex shop Gay Mart.

3. A cast member has a chance encounter with his boss in the lobby at Steamworks, the only thing more awkward than walking into a bathhouse with a camera crew following you.

4. After a girl scout saves her from slipping on black ice in 4-inch stilettos, the show’s drag queen purchases a girl scout uniform at Beatnix to pay tribute in her next act.

5. The hot Cocktail bartender chosen for the show has a drunken liaison with the lesbian character. Gay rights groups immediate urge a boycott of the TV, stating that it’s promoting the ex-gay movement. The embarrassed couple do not live happily ever after.

6. The 21-year-old cast member from Iowa who moved to Chicago to go-go at Roscoe’s gets way too drunk on a nasty combination of vodka lemonade and a can of Four Loko. The result is too messy even for the reality TV camera.
