CLOSED (FIRE): Club 20 Bar/Club in Columbus
***** That's not what I asked for...
Posted: February 19, 2007
Club 20 is a tiny little bar that looks like someone's house. If you could set up a full bar in your parent's living room, this would be Club 20. It has a tiny little area where you can stand or sit, and a little area for darts. The place is SO small. I went there once and ordered tequilla and some lemon wedges. I got tequilla and two budweisers. "That's not what I asked for," I said. But I paid for the beers anyway. Prices are kinda high. I was unimpressed and parking is awful.

Pyramid II Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Valley of the Queens...
Posted: February 19, 2007
When I went to Pyramid I expected some type of Egyptian theme. I think most people do. There ISN'T one. However, Pyramid is conveniently located near Q and Tradewinds so it makes a great starting point for a night of drunken debauchery. It's a nice bar, very clean, bigger than you expect. Karaoke is good, strippers are mediocre, and the drag acts are average. Dancing is done on a tiny little dance floor that's sequestered from the rest of the bar. Parking is hard, so I park at Q and walk.

Southbend Tavern Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Why is the car stopped? It's frightened...
Posted: February 19, 2007
I was apprehensive about going to South Bend because there was no where that I felt safe to leave my car while I was inside the bar. It's a tiny little bar. It seems to be very open, gay and straight. Very dark though. We went there for a drag show. The show started at midnight and we left at 12:08... I was unimpressed and never bothered to go back. A few other people find it "charming" but I'm not one of them.

Tradewinds II Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Too much leather...he's wearing a whole cow!
Posted: February 19, 2007
Without beating around the bush, Tradewinds is the leather/biker/bear club. The clientele are older and leatherclad. If you're youngish and twinkish you go to Tradewinds to feel REALLY pretty. If you're older and, er, bearish, you go to Tradewinds to blend in. The music and dancing are usually really great...and the porn that they show on the video screens appeals to any voyeur. It's a big rambling bar with lots of places to hide. Cheap cover and cumbersome parking - small drinks. But fun!

AWOL Bar/Club in Columbus
***** The Parson's Nose...
Posted: February 19, 2007
If you can FIND AWOL then you're doing pretty well. It's hidden right at the end of Parson's near the corner of Broad St. The only way you can find it is if you've been there before. No, that's not to say you need Captain Jack Sparrow and a broken compass, but it's a HARD place to find. And parking is just awful. The bar is small, I've never seen it busy, but the bartenders are good and very friendly. Go with a friend and don't expect much of a military theme...because there isn't one.

Tremont II Bar/Club in Columbus
***** It's not THAT dark and sticky...
Posted: February 19, 2007
When I first went to Tremont I had been warned that it was a scary little place. But, if you've traveled the Pennsylvania Turnpike you've seen far worse. It's a little bar, not much about it that stands out. The clientele are older. Karaoke on Weds. and Sat. is average. The drinks are small, but inexpensive, and the atmosphere can best be described as "sullen". A recent update and some remodeling make it less dark, but it's unremarkable in every other way. Too far from other bars, bad parking.

Somewhere Else Bar/Club in Columbus
***** You wanna go where?
Posted: February 19, 2007
Somewhere Else is where you go when you wish you were somewhere else. True... But not necessarily very helpful. It's a tiny little bar. They have drag acts at the weekend on a teeny little stage. Darts and pool table are the usual fare, and the bar is adequate, and prices reasonable. I have rarely spent more than a few minutes at this bar before getting bored and going "somewhere else". The patio is fun during the summer though, and there's charm in the little firepits during the winter.

CLOSED: Garrett's Saloon Bar/Club in Columbus
***** You know...for Cowboys...
Posted: February 19, 2007
Having had a cowboy of my own I can say that Garretts is to cowboys as cellphones are to the Amish. Garretts has a certain Western theme, but the similarity ends there. I was not moved by the cow-hide-looking stool covers or the wood paneling. It's a bar, average in all respects, but with good bartenders and the absolute BEST karaoke in town. Bring a friend, or a few friends, because it's cold if you go alone. And the $5 cover on Sat. is excessive for strippers. I stick to the karaoke days.

Union Bar + Food Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Union? Do I look like Norma Rae?
Posted: February 19, 2007
Union Station is one of the most entertaining bars I've ever gone to. They serve food - which is consistently disappointing - and drinks and lots of very enjoyable entertainment. The "video lounge" aspect is always a hit - music videos, comedy montages, and the Sunday favorite: "showtunes" make it worth while. If you go, be prepared to stay for fun. Chicken Quasadillas are the best thing I've had, but I've had lots...and I use the term "best" very losely. Good bartenders and slow service though.

Havana Video Lounge Bar/Club in Columbus
***** 2nite...We Dance...In Havana!
Posted: February 19, 2007
"Haven't you ever been to a gay bar before?" the drag queen asked. Samantha Rollins has no use for subtlety. "Well, this isn't a gay bar...it's just a bar that lots of gay people go to." And that's the truth. Havana is a sister bar to Union Station and Axis. It's crowded more often than not. The drinks are smaller than the ones at Union, bigger than the ones at Axis, but still expensive. Sunday's church for strippers and drag. But take a friend, otherwise it's lonely. And go early, or you stand.

Wall Street Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Wall2Wallstreet
Posted: February 19, 2007
The perennial lesbian dance club opens its doors on Wednesdays for "Boy's Night". Kinda dull more often than not. If you're into hanging with lesbians than check out the 'street. Otherwise, Wednesday is the day. The bars are good, service is excellent, but expensive, and most of the drinks come in plastic cups. Music is iffy and the dancefloor is more like a corral than anything. Pool tables and a tiny lounge area on the second floor offer a slight diversion, but the $5 cover is excessive.

Axis Nightclub Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Spin About Axis
Posted: February 19, 2007
One of the oldest in the gay nightclub scene. Axis is consistently fun. Friday and Satruday nights can be spent dancing on the two-level, fog filled dance floor, circulating amongst the endless swarms of hotties, or sitting comfortably in the Pump lounge watching gorgeous strippers and fantastic drag acts. Special events abound. First fridays (free admission for college students), Free CD nights, STEAM (strippers) and OIC last friday (OIC members get in free). Plenty of fun for about $5.

Q Bar and Lounge Bar/Club in Columbus
***** Q-riosity and Blacklight
Posted: February 19, 2007
Q Bar is the newest kid on the nightclub block with its video lounge, two bars, and black-lit dancefloor. During the summer, the patio is the place to see and be seen. During the winter, though, pickings can be slim. The DJs are first-class, the drinks are served in REAL glasses, and the video lounge is perfect for gathering and flirting. Dullsville during the week though, weekends are when the place sees the best traffic. Weds for under 21s, otherwise it's 21 and over only.
