Yes you are making a good move. I have lived her since 1983 and have watched Portland become a great city. Coming from St. Louis it will feel small but it has a great vibe and it's easy to get around. We don't have a single gayborhood anymore as the LGBT community is present in all our interesting, diverse neighborhoods. Give it try - you just may love it here.
