    Overrated, but with some virtues
Why people flock to Blue Chairs is still a wonder to me. Whether on the beach or on the rooftop, the drinks are terrible (order a beer... they can't mess that up!), the food is average at best, and the place has been in need of a facelift for years. On the beach, even the chairs (used in the title!!) are uncomfortable and don't lay flat so you can tan properly. Still, if you're into drag shows and other gay fun, there is some reason to visit the rooftop. Recommend checking it out if you're a first timer. If not, move on to other venues that offer a better product. P.S. this place is not even gay owned!

    Vallarta's own "Cheers."
The food is good, but the reason to head to Apaches is to hang out with "the gang." Regulars pack the prime seats on the street early and fast, but there's almost always a way to wiggle in somewhere. It's expected that you will sit down at the same table with strangers and introduce yourself. If you are inside the bar, beware of no air conditioning. But it's worth the sweat to sit inside with the bar's co-owner and bartender, Dutch born Endra. She's like a Dutch Ethel Merman, calling everyone "Dahhhling" in a booming, belting voice and introducing patrons to each other. Great place for meeting a lot of ex-pat locals and snow birds who are in the know about how gay Vallarta rolls.

    New, fun piano bar!
Club Mañana has expanded its family of venues and has opened a handsome new piano bar, located in the Zona Romantica behind Mañana at Basilio Badillo #284 (upstairs above El Cabaret restaurant and across the street from Steves Sports Bar). El Pianito boasts a chic red and white interior, a relaxed atmosphere, and an open air balcony that allows the sounds of the music and merriment to pour out into the street below. The piano entertainer sits at bohemoth bright red grand piano, leading the crowd in sing- and laugh-along. The bar has just opened, but will no doubt end up being a wonderful addition to the gay scene in Vallarta.
