It is an insider tip. You can try unexpensive peruvian food as a beginner. Not all peruvian food is everyone's taste, but I recommend just to try small bits of everything and stick with what you like. Other expensive restaurants serve the same food in other ambiances.

Larcomar is a very nice mall at the cliff border, with a noce view of the Lima Bay. There are lots of restaurants, and one will usually meet some gay crowd, speacially at night. It is pretty safe and be sure to take only official taxis everywhere.

I cannot think anyone staying there for more than 3 hours. It's shabby and usually not very clean. It is cheap though, just to zake the guy you just met.
