  • i see this was posted a long time ago. but i just joined. gay games is off. not gonna happen. most gay barflies will say the bars are good. wrong. most gay people who are at least semi-normal and socially adjusted will tell you the truth- gay life in cleveland has been going downhill for about 10 years now. guess its a combination of economic decline, gay people moving away, recession, poorly run businesses that go under because their owners have no vision or interest. who knows what else? yeah, the internet. the only neat and clean bar is twist- and twist is all about posing and stand and model. all the so called mens and regular guy bars are rundown and sometimes downright filthy. dangerous neighborhoods too. the suburbs dont have gay bars at all. if you want a more open friendly experience, without going to rundown dives, i dont know what to tell you. join the club. we're all in it together. if you want a hook up, take your chances at the hawk on a weekend night (like after 11pm) or on Thursdays after 11 (at least thats the way it used to be). you wont want to get laid at mans world, unless you like granddads and male hookers. there are spots in town like gordon square or tremont and cleveland heights that have gay friendly coffeehouses and restaurants and bars with a professional, white collar clientele. but far out in the suburbs, i can't tell you. east or west or south? some gay guys can be found shopping at legacy village, beachwood place, and crocker park. otherwise, i'm out of ideas. sorry.

  • by 'cafe,' do you mean coffeehouse or bar? there was a gay coffeehouse on cliftion blvd, in the center of the gay district, but its closed now. starbucks on clifton is popular. otherwise head to cleveland heights. more relaxed, no nonsense, and gay friendly vibe without the negatives of being surrounded by 20-something gay dudes who think they da sh*t. you chose a bad time to move here, as a lesbian, i think. a lot of gay businesses have closed, including a longstanding lesbian bar and the biggest gay club in the city. blame it on the economy or whatever, but gay life in cleveland is unfortunately on a downswing.

fun if you're in the neighborhood
its a indie rock bar heavier on the indie rock than the punk. not as serious as the spitfire on 117. mostly early 20s. a bit too youngish of an atmosphere for me. but they do serve food and a good beer selection. most of you will never read this review anyway, i know.

    crickets chirping...
cocktails was not on the CLAW list this year. not surprised. last time they had a bear party sponsored by claw and barely anyone showed. this year during the weekend thought that some men would make their way down. was i wrong! at the long bar, tiny groups occupied opposite ends. usual suspects. no one under age of 40. probably noone under age of 55. basement was open. good news! but looked like all queens. i said it before i will say it again. why cant this city have a real leather bar? cleveland is big enough. it is supposed to be a blue collar town. i guess its true that all gay men are white collar office drones. except for me i guess.

    last stop before I 90
if you're making your way to the east side or 90, the stallion is the last stop after making the long trek from 117 st. much ado is made of this bar being the oldest in cleveland. so what? it has nothing to show but memorabilia on the walls. someone below wrote theres plenty of conversation. surprises me. like every other bar in town people only talk to their friends. if you go alone be prepared to be alone for the whole time. its not a leathrmens hangout despite whats said below. elderly gentlemen and some older queens looking for a hairy fuck. thats all.

Where you hope you don't end up when you're older
two types of guys go to the hawk. those who have given up and those drunk and horny. go early and its so creepy, unwashed, and stale that you feel itchy when you sit down. half the bar stools are broken, the bathroom reeks of who knows what and is never clean, dust hangs in strands from the ceiling, skeezy types camp out for hours at a time. disco and rap (?!) blast from the jukebox and at night they leave the door open so you freeze. wonder why it gets low reviews. bob is the good thing about the place.
