I'm a recent SF resident working as an editor here at GayCities, but have been in CA my whole life. I love to explore and discover - I marvel at both the vastness and immediacy of the world. I'm always down to try something new, but also enjoy the "same 'ole" with an old friend. Life excites me.

Wild Side West Bar/Club in San Francisco
***** Check out the patio
Posted: August 14, 2009
Wild Side is a totally casual, welcoming neighborhood bar. I've had only pleasant interactions with both bartenders and other patrons here. Everyone is there to relax, play a game of pool, or sip on a drink in the gorrrrgeous back patio (it is not to be missed!). Yes, it's mostly ladies and curves to the older side of the spectrum, but you can't help but find interesting conversation here.

El Rio Bar/Club in San Francisco
***** Cheap drinks and shuffleboard!
Posted: August 14, 2009
This is one of the best hangouts in the city. The back patio is perfect for a sunny afternoon, and for some reason I can't stay away from the shuffleboard after a few drinks. Usually a mixed crowd, so don't be shocked to see straights.

Will Rogers Beach Beach in Los Angeles
***** If you must...
First to Review - August 14, 2009 - Visited: June 2008
This beach leaves much to be desired. If you drive a bit north into Malibu you'll find much nicer spots, but no gay ones that I know of. Will Rogers at least has that. If you're looking for guys in speedos, this is the spot. For actual surf and good swimming, head elsewhere.

O-Bar Restaurant Bar/Club in Los Angeles
***** College budget paradise
Posted: August 14, 2009
I used to go here on Thursdays before hitting up Tigerheat (when it used to be down the street). Each hour on Thurs. night they do a five minute "open bar" where drinks are free. It's an awesome way to get a night started on the cheap, especially if you order a vodka vodka with a splash of vodka.

ELEVEN Bar/Club in Los Angeles
***** Nice stop on the WeHo crawl
Posted: August 14, 2009
I've been here on Friday nights, and they really pack in the crowd. It gets to the point where you're squeezing past people just to get to the bathroom, but the guys are generally good looking, so maybe you won't mind too much? Not the end-all be-all of clubs, but a good one.

Blackbird Bar/Club in San Francisco
***** Great addition to Castro scene
First to Review - August 10, 2009
I was here on Friday night not expecting much, but wound up really impressed. This isn't the typical Castro bar - no thumpa-thumpa bass, no go-go boys. Instead you'll find a cool and different atmosphere (subdued and stylish) and great drinks. The crowd was mixed--some older, mostly younger--and good looking!

Dolores Park Beach in San Francisco
***** Breathtaking
First to Review - July 20, 2009 - Visited: July 2009
This is one of my favorite spots in SF. Yesterday the SF Orchestra had a huge stage set up, and they played a free concert. It was magical to bask in the sun while listening to a live professional orchestra. Regardless of the music though, the gay area is always a blast when its nice out.

Bronx Pizza Restaurant in San Diego
***** Best slice in SD
First to Review - July 17, 2009 - Visited: July 2009
I used to go to Bronx for a slice (or two or three) every few weeks when I lived in SD. It's a total NY vibe there - no frills - just good, quality pies.

Vivace Restaurant in Seattle
***** For serious coffee drinkers
First to Review - July 16, 2009 - Visited: July 2009
I went to Vivace on a recent trip to Seattle after hearing about it from some real coffee addicts. Their advice payed off - this is some of the best coffee (outside of SF of course :] ) I've ever had. And super cute guys there!

Table 219 Restaurant in Seattle
***** Lovely
First to Review - July 11, 2009 - Visited: July 2009
After reviewing the menus up and down Broadway, we finally chose Table 219. I had the chicken sandwich with pesto and it was totally delicious, and my bf's Gorgonzola marmalade sandwich was good too (but too much marmalade). Also, the beer we ordered had waaay too much head (never thought I'd say that!) but the staff was super nice when we commented about it and filled the glass.

Krave Bar/Club in Las Vegas
***** All about who you're with
Posted: June 15, 2009
Let's face it - Krave is not the nicest of gay bars. BUT, if you go with a group of friends it can be really fun. We showed up around 1am, and the staff treated us really well. They played decent music, and we all danced the night away. Good place for a non-dresscode night in Vegas.

Tres Agaves Restaurant in San Francisco
***** Amazing cocktails
First to Review - June 11, 2009 - Visited: June 2009
This place really knows their tequila. I had a Mexican 75 - a play on the French 75. 100% agave tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, and champagne -- YUM!

La Jolla Playhouse Institution in San Diego
***** Best theater in SD
First to Review - June 09, 2009 - Visited: August 2008
I'm a bit biased - the Playhouse is truly near and dear to my heart. I've been going since I was a kid, and participated in their summer conservatory where I met people who I am still in touch with to this day. I've seen some of the best theater of my life here (I Am My Own Wife, 700 Sundays, The Laramie Project, etc.), oftentimes before a production reaches Broadway.

Black's Beach Beach in San Diego
***** A must visit for SD
First to Review - April 18, 2009 - Visited: July 2008
This is a truly stunning spot. If you aren't bothered by the clothing optional mentality, a visit to Black's will give you the best San Diego has to offer. Just drive along the dirt road as far as you can, and you'll find the somewhat sketchy path leading down to the coast. Beautiful sweeping views accompany your trek down, and a flock of gay sunbathers await you at the bottom.

Universal Hillcrest Bar/Club in San Diego
***** Wonderful addition to Hillcrest strip
Posted: April 18, 2009
I'm really happy there is finally an alternative to Rich's-type-bars in Hillcrest. I don't mean to say I'm not a fan of Rich's/Flicks/etc. (they have their time and place), but if you're in the mood for a bit more attention to aesthetics and design, Universal won't disappoint. The restaurant is pretty good too!
