Phase 1 Bar/Club in Washington DC
First to Review - May 07, 2008
But if you are into that scene it really is great. Lots of women at the weekends, some dyke drama, but that goes with the territory. I'd recommend it to ANY lesbian visiting DC. Can't go wrong.
Very close to Eastern Market Metro stop.
CLOSED: Dakota Cowgirls / Titan Bar/Club in Washington DC
Posted: January 02, 2008
I'm sorry to announce that one of DC's most popular bear/real men bars has suddenly and unexpectedly closed as Dec. 21, 2007. No reason was given for the closing. We are sad to see it go. Scene has moved to Green Lantern a few blocks south.
The Hotel George (Kimpton) Hotel in Washington DC

Beautiful Hotel, services are great, but a bit back of beyond. No gay nite life in the area, but very close to Union Station Metro. During the daytime fine, but at night it becomes a bit dodgy in that area of Capital Hill.
One Washington Circle Hotel Hotel in Washington DC

While I've never stayed there, I've often gone to events at the hotel and visited the pool. Very conveniently located close to the 17th Street club scene, the new 14th Street club scene, and just a block away from the Green Latrine (er...The Green Lantern). Quite close to the downtown tourists sights also.

Not a destination bar, but a local bar for local people. No great shakes, but if you just want a drink or two and a chat with your friends, without having to put up with the posing and posturing at the "it" bars, then this is the place you want to be.
Club Chaos Bar & Grill Bar/Club in Washington DC

If that's what you're into, then you'll love it. First thing upon walking in you'll be accosted by some painfully handsome latino, and he'll say: "Hey Poppi, you maybe buy me a drink?" They ARE hot looking, but MAN are they thirsty.
Be Bar Bar/Club in Washington DC

Really a VERY nice place, in a new part of town. Gotta see it to appreciate it. Also, they had to battle the local Church to get their license. The Church put up a great fuss, making all sorts of false accusations. That in itself is reason enough to go: Just to show the religious zealots that they LOST!!!
Cobalt / 30 Degrees Bar/Club in Washington DC

These bars are places you will either LOVE or HATE! VERY popular, but it can be very painful to those who don't fit the "gay standards" of the self-professed arbiters of what is, or is not, good enough for them. If you are young, thin, chic, and into what is "IN" this very second, this is the place for you. Very close to 4 other gay bars on the same strip.

As the song said, Save a Horse - Ride a Cowboy! This is the place to do that. Butch, good looking, and willing to dance too! Crowded, but good traffic flow so you aren't always retracing your steps.
Apex Bar/Club in Washington DC

The Ladies' night on Saturdays has been discontinued. Now the lads can party on both Friday AND Saturday nights. THE Dance Party in Dupont, and even the rest of DC. VERY close to Omega, a good place to go for a drink or two before coming. Scene doesn't begin at Apex until close to midnight. Very similar to dance scenes at Babylon on Queer as Folk: Lots of lights, mirrors, and MANY sweaty, shirtless men flailing themselves about in a reckless abandon. Alas, no back room like Bablyon though.

Used to be "The Frat House", but only the name really changed. A well known and long lived DC bar. Many regulars, but newbies shouldn't be afraid of going. They love "fresh meat". Really not a bad place to stop at before going to Apex, just down the alley.

My Momma always told me that if I have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all.
I'll just leave it at that, except to say that the patrons can be a bit scary sometimes. If you are into gutter trawling, you'll love it.
JR's Bar & Grill Bar/Club in Washington DC

JR's is a DC Institution and deservedly so. All types hang out there. As someone said, it DOES have a lot of "post-twinks" and trust-fund babies (or those who pretend to be one), but all in all a thoroughly nice place. Four other Gay bars within 1.5 blocks and MANY restaurants, all gay friendly. Gotta go to Annie's if you plan to eat before after or before going out. Annie's is a well-beloved gay restaurant in DC, and has been for decades. THE place to see and be seen in the Dupont area.
DIK Bar (aka Windows) Bar/Club in Washington DC

DIK Bar (Dupont Italian Kitchen) Bar, is a gay bar over a wonderful Italian restaurant downstairs. Great food there. DIK/Windows attracts a more middle aged, professional type person than club boys and Tina Twinks, which is fine with me. Always crowded, especially Fridays. Many Bear fans.
Green Lantern Bar/Club in Washington DC

Unlike a lot of other bars that are frequented by the self-proclaimed "A-listers" and 21 y.o. 120 lb. twinks, the Green Lantern is a place where regular men, with regular bodies and hairlines go to meet similar men. Very little attitude. The owner is great. Some of the patrons can be a little fetishistic about the Bear Scene but not many. Most men are just there to get laid. Sometimes hard to tell when the good nights are, but I've always pulled there when that was my intention.
