Bill's Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** An ok place to hang out
Posted: January 03, 2009
As much as a bar hopper as I am, I never knew the old Bill's so I can't compare the two. I was at this place last night and and I have mixed feelings about it. The place itself seems ok, the crowd was very mixed and friendly, the bartenders were cool. I liked everything about it EXCEPT that I was served watered down beverages, and that did not sit well with me. I pay premium for my cocktails, and I expect to get what I pay for. I felt cheated, and that ruined the experience for me. This bar is just like most of the others, but the crowd is much more down to earth and you won't find the type of bitchy, pretentious queens as you would at Georgie's Alibi across the street. Apart from that there's nothing remarkable or outstanding about this place. It seems just like any other bar around town, except that its bigger than most. Even though they dissed me with the watered down drinks I might go back.

Ramrod Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** Great!

I'm not into leather or kink, but I've always been curious about the goings on inside a real hardcore leather bar. So, I ditched the designer duds, covered up my fancy haircut with a baseball cap, and went there wearing a muscle T, a pair of jeans, and a pair of leather boots that I usually wear only when I travel up north during winter. I was very pleasantly surprised. You won't find any drag divas or sissy boys in this place---mostly hunky, beefy, muscle men and some really HOT looking ones, too. Not all of these guys are hairy bears, or into kink. Some are pretty vanilla but they prefer to hang out there than the high-profile dance clubs because they're only interested in other masculine, down-to-earth muscle men. Some were definitely the type that I would totally go for---tall, muscular, and extremely good looking. True there's a little bit of sleaze going on, but nobody cares. You get into only what you want to get into. I mean, some of them seemed gruff, mean, and very scary when you look at them. But they were the friendliest and most down-to-earth bunch of people I had EVER met in a club anywhere. I had a great time there, even though all I did was stare at beautiful Tom of Finland types until I thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head. Great fun! I will go back there again.

TWIST Bar/Club in Miami
***** A cool bar
Posted: December 25, 2008
Twist has been around for a very long time, perhaps longer than any other gay bar/dance club on South Beach. Its a fun bar, always full of down-to-earth men. You definitely won't find the pretty, Prada-wearing, poser boys here but I've seen some pretty hot guys there on the occasions when I went. Its got different rooms with different type of music, so you can move around according your taste. Admittedly, its a bit on the sleazy side though. Still, I think its one of the better gay bars/clubs on South Beach and in all of Miami. All of the really good gay clubs that used to be on South Beach either closed down or went hetero years ago. That's why the real party people used to head north to Fort Lauderdale to hang out at the Coliseum on the weekends. If you're the type of person who has sophisticated taste you probably will not enjoy hanging out in Twist. Its just not set up to appeal to a high-profile clientele.

SCORE Bar/Club in Miami
***** Overrated
Posted: December 25, 2008
Score is more of a 'seen' bar than a 'scene' bar, in that, 99% of the people who go there are there only to pose and be seen. The music is ok, but the staff aren't too friendly and the crowd that hangs out there are just a bunch of vain, strung out, attention-seeking people pretending to have fun. Its also a very EXPENSIVE club so don't go there unless you have a lot of $$$ to blow. The over-priced drinks and tips can quickly empty your wallet if you go in there with less than at least a few hundred dollars on any given night. I will never go back there.

Club Azucar Bar/Club in Miami
***** Mixed feelings
Posted: December 25, 2008
I didn't really like this club. True that it is a bit different from the preppy, all-Caucasian bars on South Beach but it reminds me too much of the old Ozone. I like the fact that it has a Latino edge to it, but I think the clubs owners made it so exclusively Latino that you won't feel all that comfortable in there unless you are Latino yourself or at least speak Spanish. Some of the boys are gorgeous but most are not, and the place does seem to have a bit of a trashy air to it. I mean, while I was there I saw people coming in wearing flip flops and clothes that looked like they had been working around the house in them all day. I don't know, perhaps it was just the nights when I went there. But I didn't care for the music either. I also thought that there were too many drag queens, too many drag shows---too much drag, period. This place just wasn't my idea of a good time at all.

Club Boi Bar/Club in Miami
***** Nice
Posted: December 25, 2008
This is the only gay hip hop dance clubs that I know of in the entire south Florida area. And it is good fun. This club is mostly a hangout for African American and Latino men (and the men that admire them), and let me tell you the energy in this place is so high that you're probably going to lose some weight just from dancing in there for a few hours. These boys can dance...and I don't mean the lame shuffling that you'll see in any of the other clubs. I mean REAL dancing. One thing thats undeniable about Club Boi is that the people who come there are there for one reason only: to have an awesome time. You won't find many of the 'look-at-me-I've-got-my-shirt-off' poser people here.

Seamonster Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** The Seamonster is back!!!
First to Review - December 25, 2008
Anyone who's been on the Fort Lauderdale party scene over the years will remember this place. It used to have the best T-dances on Sunday evenings. Music was always great, the drinks are reasonable priced, friendly bartenders and friendly crowd. The thing I really liked about this place is that it wasn't just another pretentious scene where pretty people came out to pose. You could just hang out there and have fun. Even if you came alone its the sort of place where its very easy to meet people. Unfortunately, the place had closed down a long, long time ago. It reopened again last month. I recently had an opportunity to check it out, and was very happy to see that it has the same cool, laid back ambiance as it did before. Its right across the river from where Jetset and Voodoo Lounge are located, so if you happen to be bar hopping in downtown Ft. Lauderdale on a Sunday evening you should definitely check it out.

CLOSED: Jackhammer/Steel Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** Not bad, not bad at all
Posted: December 25, 2008
This club has great music. The DJs are especially good with the retro/disco dance mixes, if one is into that sort of thing. The crowd is an interesting blend that ranges from hot muscle dudes to hunks to average Joe types that are a little bit more on the mature side, and the atmosphere is friendly. It was fun. I would go back there again.

Torpedo Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** A reincarnation of the old 'End Up'?
Posted: December 24, 2008
This bar is a bit of a dive. Spartan interior and a few shady characters from the neighborhood---which isn't all that great. I would rate it a little below average. The music isn't impressive, and the guys you'll mostly find there are pretty much the types who'd still be inside all the other bars at 4am when the bright lights come on and all the hot people have already hooked up and are long gone. If you're looking for hot men or awesome dance music, this is not the place.

Johnny's Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** New owner, same bar...
Posted: December 24, 2008
This place has gone through some changes recently, including a change of ownership, new dancers, and some 'upgrades' to the interior decor. What hasn't changed is the fact that its located in a not-so-great part of town. Even so, its relatively safe because the Fort Lauderdale police HQ is just up the street, and they do have an attendant in the parking to watch your car while you're inside. This bar always was and still has the reputation of being an old man's bar. It is a twink boy dancer bar, and if you like 'em young, pretty, and skinny, then this might be a cool place for you to hang out. The dancers are kids, and they're very enthusiastic when it comes to showing appreciation for their tips. Ergo, if you tip them generously they will be VERY nice to you. Its a friendly bar, and most of the patrons who hang out there tend to be much older dudes who're really into 18 year old boys. If you like your men with a little meat and muscle on their bones, this is not the place where you're going to meet them.

Boardwalk Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** Great place...
Posted: December 24, 2008
If you like being hustled, that is. The general setup of this place isn't very patron-friendly. The hustlers and go go boys begin to shake you down the minute you walk in, and some of them are very aggressive. I don't mind stuffing bills in a go go boy's G-string as long as he's hot, friendly, and puts on a good show. Most gay men are probably the same way because they go to gay stripper bars like the Boardwalk specifically for this reason. But here's the problem, some of these dancers are straight and its very obvious. Some of them also aren't that great looking or in all that great shape, and they don't know how to dance or how to put on a really fun stripper act. Not that a straight guy can't pull of a strip show in a gay club. We've all seen them do it many times in other clubs. But there's just something about the Boardwalk to me, it seems; they're more about milking the crowd than they are about fun and entertainment. The people who own this joint should spend a weekend at the male strip clubs in Vegas to see how its really done.

JetSet Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** Hot!
First to Review - December 22, 2008
This club is a kinda sorta reincarnation of the old Coliseum, and although it is similar to the Coliseum in some ways it is also different (a very good thing). The Coliseum always had awesome DJs and the music was excellent. The hottest guys went there, and it used to be THE place to be on the weekends---beating out even the best clubs on South Beach. But after a while, it changed: too dark, too loud, too sleazy, and way too much drugs. Jet Set incorporated all the good stuff from the Coliseum and I hope it stays this way. The energy is high, the men are hot, the drag queens are fierce, and the DJs are awesome... This is the gay club where all the really cool party people hang out. Unlike the Voodoo Lounge next door, JetSet is all-gay all the time. Love it!

Boom Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** No so hot, but not the worst
Posted: December 22, 2008
To be fair, this club has improved quite a bit over the years. It used to be a bit of a dive, but now it looks and feels more like a real dance club. It pulls a decent size crowd on a Saturday night, but pretty much dead every other night. The drink prices are good, the bartenders are friendly, and the crowd is very social. But the minute you walk in you can tell that this is not the place where the hot crowd and the real party people hang out. In other words, if you're looking for really hot men, you're probably not going to find them here but if you just want a place to hang out and dance its ok. The music is hit or miss, and sometimes it really sucks. The volume of the sound is also waaaaay too loud, but I like the multi-level set up, and I also like that they don't gouge you with outrageous cover charges like the other clubs.

Georgie's Alibi Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale
***** This place has seen better days
Posted: December 22, 2008
I live in Ft. Lauderdale, and years ago this bar used to be the place where EVERYBODY hung out especially on Sunday afternoons/evenings. It used to be a really cool place, whether you were there to pose, hang out with friends, or meet people. They had decent drink prices and good service from the bartenders. Tried the food there a few times after they started doing that but didn't care much for it and found it a bit over-priced. The change to smoke-free was a good one. Hadn't been there in years, until a couple weeks ago. Now it seems the place has gone down quite a bit. The hot men who used to hang out there aren't there anymore. Now its mostly middle age guys who don't seem to get that they're not young anymore, tourists, and a lot of posers who think they're hot stuff. Very, very fake ambiance and too many too-loud flat screen TVs all over the place. Worst of all the service is terrible. Overall not such a great place to hang out at all. I wouldn't recommend it.

VooDoo Lounge Bar/Club in Fort Lauderdale

The energy is high, the music is great, and the crowd is hot! I love this club. Definitely one of the best in south Florida. I love the straight/gay/bi mix.
