Very expensive
I had a tiny cup of herbal tea in their Lancaster Quay shop and it cost e2.85. In this economic climate they
depends
It depends on all kinds of factors (day, month etc) but if you just wanna dance and enjoy yourself (with the possibility of hooking up) then Ruby's is the place to go!
Faux gay bar
Interesting opinion corkdude, care to reveal your identity? Sorry but Sinners is only a gay bar as long as there is the pink euro (Sinners is only a name given to Wednesday nights in Chambers BTW). The staff are great and the security guys are friendly. They have drink promos and special events. The crowd is mixed (gay, lesbian, straight). If others care to read my other reviews of places in Cork they'll see that I'm not that 'negative' at all.
Too loud plus hours are crap
Despite the personal attacks by corkdude (who chooses to be anonymous): I like Chambers for the most part but the music gets way too loud - in fact it gets so loud the amps clip and the sound distorts! The hours have been greatly reduced and despite calling itself a gay bar it advertises to straights (student night, ladies night) who often overrun the place. I still visit around once a month to catch up with friends.
Great quality, great selection
Easons is one of the last great Irish establishments. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's a great little restaurant upstairs. They stock GLBT books and mags and if they don't have what you want ask them to get it in.
No self-respecting gay should shop here!
Seriously, no older gay guys I know would ever shop here. The styles and quality are terrible- you get what you pay for - years ago I bought stuff here and none of it was the size on the label plus it all faded and fell apart frighteningly quickly.
A radio station? Really?
This just reinforces a crappy stereotype that all gays like 'thump thump' music. Besides, RTE Pulse only plays during certain hours, other hours it's a station for kids plus it broadcasts on DAB only in limited locations.
It's raining men
A very popular bar with non-Spanish speaking tourists. The bar is usually packed to the rafters with men of all shapes and sizes and the atmosphere is jovial and...almost brotherly in a way. There's a sense of fraternity there and that's really helped by the fantastic bar staff. Don't forget to tip them and make sure they ring the bell!
Cool lighting great drinks
Very trendy bar with a cool relaxing seating area at the very front where you can relax and cool down after dancing a while. I spent many nights here talking to a lovely French barman (name escapes me). The 'disco' lights here are laser/LED thingys and they are way cool as id the whole decor and music.
Video DJs make it
This was my favourite bar in 2009 in Sitges (I've been back once since). There is such a cool atmosphere with great bar staff and great music (every night they finish up with the same song (nos vamos a la cama hasta maana) and the dark room is a scream!
Size isn't everything
A small bar with a big atmosphere. Great staff who still practice the 'old' hospitality and make you feel like you're part of a family.
Be careful
The prices are deceptive. I wanted the Fawlty Towers box set and it was considerably more expensive here than in HMV down the road. Having said that they have possibly the best gay DVD selection in Ireland. I was genuinely surprised at the quality and quantity I saw! Well worth a visit (plus there's some nice eye-candy working there)!
Reliable and friendly
Loafers is a great place to hang out and chill out. The music can get very loud later in the night but the sense of space (the place has like five or six 'sections' in it that you can roam around) means you can find your niche there. Always a great laugh, really popular with the lesbian community, and a huge comfortable smoking area!
Great food served with gusto!
The use of 'gusto' in the title is deliberate as Cafe Gusto and Liberty Grill have a common boss! This is a very popular place with a fantastic menu and reasonable prices. Wonderful atmosphere!
Simply the best
Cafe Gusto on the boardwalk is my favourite place in Cork. The coffee is great, the staff are cool and the owner is a huge supporter of GLBT issues/events. They serve delicious food and on certain nights in their Washington street cafe they stay open late serving tapas and Mediterranean style mezzo!
