Bongo Johnny's Patio Bar & Grille Restaurant in Palm Springs
Posted: November 14, 2008 - Visited: August 2008
I went to Bongo Johnny's after reading several bad reviews because I trusted a friends judgment. I think the early reviews were mostly due to staff issues and have seemed to work themselves out for the most part. The exception is the owner is a bit snotty, but hey. The food is tasty, the portions are large and the cost is reasonable. I will be back again.
Hamburger Mary's Restaurant in Palm Springs

To bad the chain ran into so many problems and closed many locations. This one is very busy with a good crowd. The food is familiar to all who have been to a Mary's before. Mostly Gay crowd. Slow but good service. Only problem is the wait on weekends.

This place is one of my favorite anywhere. The cocktails are delish, the food is to die for and the service is top rate. Do yourself a favor and bring your friends here for Tapas and drinks. A bit pricy, but worth every penny. Georgie's Alibi Gay Bar (same as Ft. Lauderdale and St. Pete) is opening upstairs. The crowd is mostly Gay very diverse ages and genders. This is a place everyone will enjoy even Grandma will have a ball. Live entertainment often. Trust me on this one you will fall in love.

I really enjoyed this place. The rooms are large and the place is landscaped to the hilt. Unfortunately, the owners are stuck up little snots. The clientele however was very nice and made my stay enjoyable. I would go back again, but not a favorite. More geared toward couples. Mostly 40's.

The owner is a total anal retentive prick. The crowd was older mid 60's, not that there is anything wrong with that, but these must be the ones that the CCBC rejected. They constantly leered, made cat calls and the weekend I was there they were re-seeding the grass and had all the grounds roped off and signs posted every couple feet telling you to stay off the grass. A sign or two or something a bit less would have done the trick without ruining the look of the place. Won't be back here again.

I have to admit that I was not expecting to enjoy this hotel. I stayed here with a friend and had serious reservations. I honestly can say that I was pleasantly surprised. The people were some of the nicest, most down to earth of any Gay resort I have stayed. The crowd consists mainly of Bears and Chubs leaning more towards Chubs, but very nice people. The rooms were updated and very clean. I will be back here again.
Chaps Inn Hotel in Palm Springs

I have been to Chaps a few times and I have yet to find anyone under 60. Most are British or at least have their lack of a since of humor. It looks like it could be a fun place if they gutted and rebuilt it and had a different crowd, but alas.

This place is certainly not what you think of when you think of a Resort. While some may like this about it, I thought it was fairly disgusting. It was pretty much a bunch of old trolls all leering at anyone under 40. Pass of this place, stay somewhere a bit nicer with guys that are worth looking at. If you feel the need then get a day pass. Thank me later.

When I first heard there was a Gay bar in Park Central, I gave it a couple of months. For one thing I wrongly assumed that it was in the old two story bar space. Well these guys have done a fab job of a "Happy Hour" type bar. Mostly people stopping in for a drink after work. Good crowd.

Don't go expecting the Eagle Bar's of other cities. The people were friendly, and the couple of people that actually have a car may have been to an Eagle 30 years ago, but this is no Eagle.
Incognito Lounge Bar/Club in Phoenix

I have mixed feelings about this bar. The people are nice and the staff is friendly, but most everyone in there should be in Rehab.
Amsterdam Bar/Club in Phoenix

This place is full of people with maxed out credit cards who feel they are better than everyone else and full of attitude. To bad, because the bar is quite nice and has a lovely patio. I suppose if you like that type of crowd it would be a fun place.

Nice patio. Everyone is friendly and the people are unpretentious. It's the kind of bar to go relax and have a cold drink.
