I have a wonderful lover, who is everything I ever hoped for :-) Lived in San Francisco for 22 years. Also lived in Paris and Chicago. We both like to explore places where regular, pleasant men hang out. And we like clothing optional places too :-) Partner is Danish, and we are both Francophiles and Europhiles. We rent out our apartments in Nice, France (French Riviera), and soon in Fort Lauderdale.

Inn Leather Hotel in Fort Lauderdale
    ***** Clean place, wonderful owner.
    Posted: January 04, 2010 - Visited: December 2009
This is our third visit. The place is not dirty at all. It's quite clean. You can feel relaxed being nude everywhere. There are not enough older fellows for us. Would like to see more of them :-) This is where you go to see the kind of guys featured in the leather magazines. Many are quite spectacular. The one word of caution. You ABSOLUTELY MUST request a written, email CONFIRMATION of your rate per night and most importantly, your BALANCE DUE. Unfortunately, one staff member will quote you one price, and when you get there, another staff person will have "whited out" your original quoted rate on your reservation card, and charge you a much higher rate. Kind of "bait and switch". Getting it in writing when you book will avoid this embarrassment and feeling of victimization.

Galanga Thai Kitchen & Sushi Bar Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale
***** Best "eye candy" waiters in town

The staff and the food are the stars-- perhaps in equal measure :-) Love the Green Curry with Shrimp and the Delightful Crispy Duck. The Tom Kha coconut soup with prawns is awesome, and at $6, the portion is almost enough for a luncheon meal. Very generous portions served here. Not stingy. And very, very delicious and tasty-- an orgy in your mouth :-)

    Stanley Restaurant in New Orleans
    ***** It's a good place, in a great location

Lots of New Orleans-inspired dishes created by the chef. Great pancakes, nice, inventive lunches, cool egg dishes (like Eggs Benedict, but with Fried Oysters on the side), homemade ice cream sundaes, or scoops, sandwiches-- and they are open 7 am to 7 pm, 7 days a week. Friendly, youthful wait staff. Just looking out at the town's main square is such a treat in itself :-)

***** Total COMFORT food. Good food done real good.

Located in the Bywater. Semi-gay; certainly very gay friendly. If you like your waiters with lots of tattoos, this is the place :-) It's a pretty cool place. V-E-R-Y laid-back. Good, good comfort food. To me, it's more like a place you'd find in Asheville, North Carolina, but there are a few nods to New Orleans cooking on the menu. The food is more country Southern than New Orleans, but quite tasty. A real, real popular hang out with locals in the Bywater.

    EAT Restaurant in New Orleans
***** Wonderful food here & reasonably priced

We eat here often. It's great. Friendly gay staff and lots of local specialties on the menu. Saturday and Sunday brunches are super, and the daily menu is interesting as well. The food is always good, and sometimes incredibly good :-) Try the Creole stuffed, roasted bell pepper and the Fried Green Tomatoes. Locals come here too-- so that tells you something.

La Petite Grocery Restaurant in New Orleans
***** Great place for South Louisiana Haute Cuisine
    First to Review - December 04, 2009 - Visited: November 2009
Lunches are just around $12 or so. Very reasonable. More pricey at dinner time. La Petite Grocery offers a happy hour featuring $1 cocktails and 4 times distilled UV vodka. Plus, daily small plates created by their award-winning chef Justin Devillier are only $3-6. Stop in Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30-6:30pm and enjoy their casual elegance :-) It's an Uptown crowd--- very handsome, very rich, well-scrubbed and well-behaved :-)

    Copenhagen Rainbow Hotel in Copenhagen
***** Spartan decor befitting "Danish modern"
    Posted: November 29, 2009 - Visited: December 2005
This place is in a fantastic location, and caters to a totally gay & lesbian clientele. For people from other cultures, the simplicity, no-nonsense Danish style can seem quite sterile and cold. That's just the way it is. We have stayed with Klavs (pronounced Klaus) a couple of times. Just remember that Scandinavians are a bit more reserved and formal. Quite frankly-- they are the opposite of Italians. So don't expect the warm welcome you receive in Latin countries. It's not their style. The hosts go off to work each day, so you're on your own. But, the amenities are nice and much appreciated.

    Adolfo's Restaurant in New Orleans
***** New Orleans Creole Italian at its best
    First to Review - November 28, 2009
Adolfo's mother was from Venice and his father from Seville. He toured Latin America for 5 years, and then jumped off a ship and swam to shore here. The rest is the American success story. He and his American wife have a fantastic, charming, intimate, quirky little restaurant upstairs above the Apple Barrel bar. The food is divine, and he now has a loyal following of locals and visitors alike. Try any fish dish with the shrimp and crawfish sauce on top. The quality of the food is wonderful. If you prefer to pay double the prices here for "haute Italian", try Maximo's or Irene's Cuisine. Excellent also, but quite expensive.

Their Shrimp Caminada Po-Boy just won the Number 1 award at the annual Po-Boy Festival. It's Vietnamese and Cajun inspired with Shrimp in a citrus butter with Cajun Kimchi Slaw on the sandwich-- lots of fresh cilantro and mint as well. A real winner. Great baked oysters too-- Falgoust, Fochon and Grand. Highly recommended.

French with British influences. Located in the heart of Chelsea. Sir Terrance Conran's (of Habitat store fame) restaurant in the old Michelin tire factory is a complete winner all around. Herbsaint Restaurant in New Orleans
***** Chef Donald Link creates fine New Orleans fare
    First to Review - November 25, 2009
(Herbsaint is the name of a New Orleans liqueur-- the local version of French Pernod. They took this name for the restaurant.) The chef shows off his South Louisiana roots, frequently fusing them with the best techniques of fine French cooking. He also owns Cochon, another popular restaurant. The French Fries here are about the best to be had anywhere. I sometimes order them as a side (and I never think of ordering fries normally). This restaurant is popular with the Financial District crowd for lunch, but has a loyal following at dinner, when visitors staying in the many hotels nearby partake as well. Reservations suggested. Nice ambiance and outdoor dining in good weather.

With the two partner/owners/chef formerly with Commander's Palace and Restaurant August, how can it go wrong? Well, it doesn't! It's the perfect intimate, innovative spot you hope for-- and in a beautiful space with tile floors and soaring ceilings. Upstairs is a gorgeous dining room with floor to ceiling windows and crystal chandeliers. Truly an awesome place with awesome food. And get this: No one who works there, including the owners, is over 30 years old!!! It's a grand success, and you probably can't get in without a reservation. The word is out :-)

***** Dine at House prepared for Napoleon's exile in1797
    First to Review - November 23, 2009 - Visited: January 2009
When you step through the doors here, you are stepping through time back to Paris of the late 1700's. Seriously. The Napoleon House is a restaurant/bar/bistro/cafe all in one. Famous for their old-world atmosphere, classical music, and chess players-- and their great bistro food and sandwiches, such as the New Orleans Italian classic Muffuletta sandwich made with ham, Genoa salami, pastrami, swiss cheese, provolone cheese and housemade Italian olive salad-- this place is practically a must. Lunch and dinner-- open late except Mondays (close at 5pm) and closed Sundays. (Oh, Napoleon never actually made it to his exile here. He died in 1821 three days before he was to sail. Stop at the nearby Cabildo and see his death mask,)

And for lunch, I favor the Parisian baguette sandwiches Gerard makes with your choice of Ham & Swiss, Turkey, Tuna or Chicken Salad. There's also a special hot soup of the day. Very reasonable prices-- maybe the least expensive cappuccinos and lattes in town. Open 6:30 am to 2 pm only. Closed Tuesdays.

    First to Review - November 20, 2009
The whole world comes here (maybe that's why it's called Café of the World in French). Dating from the Civil War era (1862), this institution is still going strong. Every visitor is told he MUST try the beignets (French doughnuts) and café au lait at this coffee house, located across from Jackson Square. (The other 2 "must-do's" are riding the St. Charles Ave. Streetcar in the American Sector, and walking down rowdy and lewd Bourbon Street-- and exploring the French Quarter, of course.)

Feelings Cafe & d'Aunoy Piano Bar Restaurant in New Orleans

Feelings Cafe d'Aunoy was part of a plantation, and you can feel it in every pore of the structure. It's a piece of antiquity that is enjoyed to this day by the loyal fans of this place. Dale and Jim have had a gay following for years, as well as those who appreciate excellent French-Creole dishes served in a bygone atmosphere. The piano bar and courtyard are fun anytime, and there's a live piano player every Friday night in the bar. Favorite dishes are the Seafood Baked Eggplant, Veal D'Aunoy, and Gulf Fish Nicolas. Open for Dinner Thursday-Sunday and Sunday brunch. A Marigny gem highly cherished.

"Coolest" spot in the Marigny? Open 7am till 10pm daily. The handsome owner, San Francisco native Johnnie Sanders, moved here from San Francisco, where he owned and operated a coffee shop in the Tender-Nob (where the Tenderloin meets Nob Hill). He was taken by the warm and welcoming neighborhood of the Marigny, where he instantly felt that he wanted to be part of this community. Now, it's a success-- with entertainment some nights, readings, great coffee, snacks, ice cream-- and Vietnamese lunches offered each Friday. Great wi-fi crowd of locals and visitors. Very tech-savvy clientele-- on the younger side. Very bright and interesting people congregate here, and the offerings are delicious.

The Challah bread is excellent here. This New Orleans version of a Jewish inspired deli is naturally quite different from everywhere else. Owners Allison & Steve have succeeded in creating a Berkeley (California) kind of atmosphere in the vibe and in the gentle, laid-back clientele it attracts. This is "the family kitchen" for the Marigny neighborhood. Waiters and clients usually know each other, and many if not most, are gay. But, the stars like it too. Alec Baldwin winked at me here from his table when he caught me staring at his long eyelashes :-) It's good, Southern, New Orleans comfort food. Daily specials every day, and full bar. Great shrimp po-boys served on that great local French bread. Sometimes the waiters are a bit campy-- just adding to the fun experience. Open 24 hours Thursday through Monday. (Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.) (By the way, La Peniche means "the barge" in French, as some walls are made of wood from barges coming down the Mississippi River, which were disassembled once they arrived and used to build homes.)

Delicious Thai food. Ask for "Mild" if you want to enjoy your meal :-) At this place, Mild is equivalent to New Orleans hot and spicy. Try the Dancing Shrimp Salad, Shrimp in a Pouch, and the Green Curry (or anything on the menu). A mainstay of the neighborhood, popular for both lunch and dinner. The wait staff is cute and friendly. Don't worry about who's gay and who's not in New Orleans. It's kind of like San Francisco-- every place is somewhat gay. And they're all extremely gay friendly. Half the waiters in the city are artists, performers, writers, teachers, etc.--- all creative people-- very accepting (or gay themselves).

    Posted: November 13, 2009 - Visited: March 2008
Sexually-charged is the key word. And you should appreciate older men to enjoy a stay here. Almost all are over 40, and most are in their 50's and 60's. If you are not an ageist, and you are looking for "fun in the sun" in a beautiful atmosphere, this is the place. The men are quite handsome, frisky and friendly. Our room was clean and pleasant, with nice white linens, robes and towels. A picture window is in each room, so you can look outside at the grounds, as well as the naked men strolling by. You would only find it disgusting if you are anti-sex or anti-age (or both). So, stay somewhere less sexually charged and with a younger crowd if that's what you like. We will return this March. Sometimes the place is so busy, it's all the staff can do to just keep up with the flow of check ins. The grounds and pools are beautiful.

You will hear the real New Orleans accent here-- the one that sounds like Brooklyn. Singer Fats Domino eats here often (and is played a lot on the juke box). We were seated across from him recently. The seafood is fantastic. It's across the Street from a Naval Base in the Bywater district (next to the Marigny neighborhood), so filled with military guys and natives. A real local treasure. Go for lunch or early dinner, as they close by 8pm (and stop serving 15-30 minutes before). Try the (almost) all you can eat steamed Dungeness crab for less than $20.00. (Or any seafood dish.)

Rather than just the leather crowd, this bar serves the community of masculine men who like other masculine men. The guys you see in magazines are few and far between here. They're just regular guys in jeans and T-shirts. But, they are not stand-offish. Upstairs is a dark, dark bar where things happen after 10 pm. More crowded on weekends. Definitely a place for the over 40 and 50- who are most welcomed here. Not body-conscious- so every "type" comes here.

Cafe Lafitte in Exile Bar/Club in New Orleans
***** Oldest gay bar in the South

Almost an institution, this gay bar is nearly 60 years old-- and in the same location. It's a friendly, fun, noisy bar with lots of frolicking. It's always been a good place to meet people. When people say older crowd, they just mean there's a wide range of ages-- not just twinks and disco bunnies (who more likely are hanging out at Oz and the Bourbon Pub).

Inexpensive, wonderful spa type food, fish special dinner plate everyday. Tapas, seafood, pizza. Served in their dining rooms, or poolside. A real treat. Wonderful bar and wine list. Restaurant is rated VERY favorably in the Zagat guide for New Orleans.

The restaurant is awesome. The chef is a graduate of the Ritz Escoffier cooking school in Paris. It shows in his creative dishes. Incredibly LOW prices. $3 Chardonnay.

    Slammer Bathhouses/Saunas in Fort Lauderdale
    ***** Incredible!!

This MUST be the cruisiest place in Fort Lauderdale. And things happen!!! No standing and modeling here. If you like cruising and no action-- this is NOT the place for you. This place is for the VERY active. Frankly, it's WILD! Don't go here if you're too shy.
