37 / M San Francisco
I'm an explorer at heart, I love to travel and get a feel for the place I'm going. When I get to another city, I enjoy the sights, I look for great restaurants and I always try to hit the bar/club scene to get a feel for the boys in any town.

Test New Bar (ok to add) Bar/Club in Test City

it's the best ever.
Bourbon Street Bar/Club in San Diego
Posted: July 19, 2008
Bourbon Street was the perfect place for boy-watching with a good mix of people and lots of pretty boys. The crowd seemed a little more LA and a bit less friendly than some of the other SD spots, but overall I enjoyed it. It's in University Heights near a few other restaurants but otherwise away from the Hillcrest or North Park bars, so it's harder to barhop here.
Look Restaurant in Palm Springs
First to Review - February 22, 2008 Visited: February 2008
My partner and I went here for a Sunday brunch on a perfectly sunny Palm Springs day. The patio is great, the mimosas were nice and the food was good (not amazing, but above average). Perfect for people watching and most of the crowd was gay & lesbian. I'll do brunch here again when we are in PS next.

My partner and I stayed here over President's Day weekend and had a great time. The owners (John and Jean-Guy) are very present and a part of making your stay enjoyable, which I liked. The crowd naturally gathers for conversations over the morning breakfast, during the afternoon snack/cocktail hour and on Sunday for Margaritas. Pick this place if you want a casual and nice time by the pool and to meet new folks for good conversation. This isn't one of the friskiest resorts - there are better places to stay if you are looking for that - but for an overall relaxing trip, I'd stay here again.
Woody's Bar/Club in Philadelphia
Posted: February 09, 2008
Like T.O.C., Woody's is like two places in one. the main bar upstairs and down is a busy, but casual bar and hangout. Pull up a stool and have a beer, talk with friends. Then, if you are so inclined, pay a cover to go into their large dance floor area. The crowd and the place is much more vibrant and fun. The music on the Friday I went was so, so and the crowd breaking out into line dancing was a little bit of a throwback though. I'd stop in again to give it a try on my next trip, but I wouldn't go out of my way unless there's a special event going on.
Tavern on Camac Bar/Club in Philadelphia

Downstairs is a really fun piano bar with the expected show tunes queens (and college drama boys) singing along. It's rustic and not all that much to look at, but packed. Go upstairs and its like a totally different world. Modern lounge feel, young and attractive crowd great pop/dance music. It was my favorite stop on my trip to Philly.
Cobalt / 30 Degrees Bar/Club in Washington DC

This is clearly the "hot spot" in Dupont. I went on a Thursday and the crowd started rolling in around 11 for the "Batlle of the Briefs" at 12. The downstairs lounge area feels like a high end living room, upstairs is a mid-size dance floor with shirtless (and hot) bartenders. I'd agree with the other reviewers that the crowd here is young, cute and keenly aware of fashion - yep, diesel t-shirts and trendy haircuts everywhere.
JR's Bar & Grill Bar/Club in Washington DC

So I wouldn't call this a stand & model bar, although a few people seem to act like it is. I went there on a night where they were playing rock videos from the 80s - fun! It was easy to strike up conversation here and I enjoyed having a drink in this crowd. The upstairs area is odd, only room enough for a pool table. Seems like many people stop here for happy hour, or before heading to Cobalt down the street.
DIK Bar (aka Windows) Bar/Club in Washington DC

I stopped in briefly around 11pm and it was a bit quiet with a few groups of people watching show tunes on the TV screens. I like this place, instantly felt comfortable and the crowd was attractive and of mixed ages.

Definately a casual locals hangout. Kinda old school in decor. Crowd seemed friendly.
Halo Lounge Bar/Club in Washington DC
First to Review - August 18, 2007
I stopped in at Halo for a drink on my recent visit to DC. It has two floors (a bar on each floor) and attracts a 20-30-somthing crowd. There are great couches to sit and chat with friends, but I found it hard to meet new people here. Everyone seemed to be locked in their own private conversation. The biggest negative: the place is all white, but they project colored blue, green and red lights on the walls/ceiling, so it was dark, but not really in a good way. I'd only stop in again if I was with friends.

This is the second place I've been to in just a few weeks that I'd call Indian Fusion. The menu here is based loosely on Indian traditions and spices but the preparations are more california cuisine than anything else. For an appetizer, I ordered "Naan Pizza" with prosciutto and it could have been a meal unto itself. It was really amazing. I then had beef tenderloin, which was amazingly prepared and tasty, but not out of the ordinary. If I had it to do again, I'd do the Naan Pizza and mix it up with some of the more adventurous dishes. Only negative: the wine list. Their main list had only so/so wines starting at $50!!, and their supplemental list only started at $70/bottle. Give this place a try.
Spiritus Pizza Restaurant in Provincetown
First to Review - April 15, 2007
The pizza here is actually quite good, but that's not the reason people come here. This is the spot to cruise, meet people and people watch after the bars/clubs close. It's simply part of the routine: dinner, then club, then spiritus. I have had the pizza while sober, and it is worth the trip during the day too.
Thai House Express Castro Restaurant in San Francisco
First to Review - March 12, 2007
Thai House Express is my corner Thai place (I'm lucky enough to live right here in the Castro) and I eat there way too many times to mention. The food is terrific: maybe not the best thai I've ever had, but close to it. I recommend the yellow curry chicken (I forget the name) There's always a crowd of good looking people and the waiters aren't bad to look at either.
Sibling Rivalry Restaurant in Boston
First to Review - March 11, 2007
My partner and I had dinner here when we were in Boston last year. We were attacted by the concept (Two brothers who are chefs prepare entrees based on the same ingredients - kind like Iron Chef, but in the family). The atmosphere is great, the location too (right on Tremont in the South End) and the food was very good (although not amazing).
CLOSED: Roxy (Saturdays) Bar/Club in New York
Posted: February 25, 2007
Roxy was the first gay bar/club/anything I ever went to. I remember being overwhelmed by the sheer number of shirtless and hot men in that place. It was as if I had walked into another universe. Over the years I've gone back again and again and have always had fun (though at times the music got very dark and druggy). I thought the Roxy would "always be there", but I guess nothing is forever!
Gym Bar/Club in New York

I stop at this place when I need to meet up with friends before bar hopping. There's a nice crowd (mostly thirty-something) that's a little more manly then other chelsea hangouts. I'm not much into sports, but the sports bar feel makes it different than the rest.
g Lounge Bar/Club in New York

G is an institution and after all these years it really has never changed. Now, its a great place to meet friends and chill out watch the crowd go by. The crowd isn't as pretty as it used to be, but the experience is just the same.
Revere Guest House Hotel in Provincetown
First to Review - July 16, 2006
We stayed at this guest house 1 night in July 2006. They did an amazing job of restoring this inn, the finishes are impecable, everything is clean, and there are a ton of nice touches like recessed lights, wall sconces, etc. We stayed in one of their smallest rooms (#3 I think) and while we loved it, we felt the mattress was a bit uncomfortable (too firm). I would definately try this place again and would love to stay for at least a few nights.
Le Montrose Suites Hotel in Los Angeles
First to Review - June 22, 2006
My partner and I stayed here over New Year's 2005/2006 and it was the perfect place for us. The rooms are all suites and we got a junior suite which is just a big room with a living area on one side and bed on the other. The decor of the room was contemporary but very comfortable and since it rained most of our trip we particularly enjoyed the fireplace and the DVD player - unlike most hotel rooms, we felt at home here. My favorite thing about this hotel though is that it is just a block or two off of the main WeHo strip, but in a residential neighborhood. So you really do feel like you are living there. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to stay in WeHo and wants a nice attitude free place.
Bar on Castro Bar/Club in San Francisco

Great music, cute boys, what more can you ask for. Busiest on weekend nights. There's an open area in the front (sorta half indoors and half outdoors) which is a great place to hangout with friends even during the day!
