West Hollywood = Weho = Boystown is the gayest part of LA. It's adjacent to Beverly Hills, and so can be expensive. My studio costs $1500/mo including utilities and parking. Long Beach is also very gay friendly, especially for couples, and cheaper, but it's not LA. It's a 45 min drive south of Weho but it's vibrant. There are a lot of straight women in Weho too. The eastern part of Weho has a large Russian immigrant population, and can be less expensive. Outside the eastern and southern borders of Weho are the City of Los Angeles neighborhoods of Hollywood, and Mid-Wilshire. Both have nice and not-so-nice areas, but have improved. Mid-Wilshire has a nice mix yet is still convenient. Santa Monica abuts the beach, and has some prime areas. Venice is to its south has a bohemian feel. The San Fernando Valley is the part of LA to the north. It's quasi suburban and hot. The Studio City neighborhood is the closest to Weho, just over the hill through "canyon" roads: Laurel, Benedict, and Coldwater Canyons. Just to its north is the Valley Village part of North Hollywood. Nice bungalows and small apartments can be a good value. Silverlake and Los Feliz [loss FEE liz] are closer to downtown, and are gay friendly, with more established gay men. Silverlake is arty, and has a large latino population.
